Post subject: Re: Would you buy japanese LD's w/o OBI? Posted: 14 Apr 2017, 20:17 |

The last time I checked, there was no spot in any of my LD players to insert an obi and improve the movie I'm watching, nor does it offer any kind or protection like the jacket, so zero f**ks are given about the obi.

Clearly you don't have the HLD-X0000 with the obi reader slot built in.

I don't have any LD movies but I have a few Pioneer Laseractive games and two of my four don't have an Obi strip and that is OK.

In my early collecting days, I didn't realize the significance of an OBI and tossed them all. It was "covering up the art" on the jacket. From that perspective, I hate them. Even now, when I get a BD or DVD, if there is a sticker on the jacket, off it comes and into the trash - I mean what is the significance of a sticker that says "Includes Digital Download Code!"
With that said, I now keep all of my OBI's and have gone out of my way to repair ones that have been damaged in transit (Star Trek box sets), because they are specific to the title (unlike the HDR stickers on Sony 4k BDs).However I do not go out of my way to collect every variant of every OBI that was done - Some of the Star Wars titles with the same catalog number have been issued with multiple OBIs. If I find a copy of something I already own where I've tossed (or don't have) an OBI, and it's in fairly good condition and doesn't cost a zillion bucks, I'll pick up an extra disc.

I keep all my obis in a bag in my closet to keep the entire covers visible. I only keep the obis for resale value if I decide to give up a disc. I did try reading a few obis when I first got LDs but there is nothing interesting on them. Pointless to me.
