U-571 (2000) [27779]

U-571 (2000) HD-DVD Dolby Stereo + / dts / THX sound system.

New and sealed £1.30! arrived today and loaded in tube 1 ready for HD-DVD firing...

Picture/colour is about same as the region 2 DVD. Cinematography process was filmed in the Super-35 format virtually retied today, and at the time was framed in 2.35:1 for cinema scope release, but the region 2 DVD was opened up slightly on vertical framing giving a slightly distracting 1.85:1 W/S look which I noticed around 2001 when the DVD was released.

Picture detail is of course sharper with 1080p over the 480p SD.Fine details of water on the woolie hats as the US team enters the U-boat to retrieve "the enigma code breaker" is easily seen fine facial details is also clearly seen fine details of orange colours as the US submarine when stuck with a torpedo from the other U-boat lights up the darkened rainy waters.

The Dolby Stereo Digital Plus sounds okay.

There is a dts track provided that sounds equally as good.

Split surrounds are balanced nicely in with LCR everything from sound effects mechanical sounds and natural rain sounds finally timber balanced equal all around.

Richard Marvin, score sounds appropriate with a navy like salute send off for the closing credits.

Also released in Sony Dynamic Digital Sound SDDS 8 channels for cinema release only.

The Japanese LD AC-3 is a rare one. I read the D-VHS has snag with the picture not as good or has a soft DNR to it?

He was licking milk up. Sooty posed for U-571.
