I just won the following from an E-bay seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HITACHI-AVC08U-AUDIO-VIDEO-CENTER/232414269174?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649. This box can accept 2 composite and 2 component inputs (both video and audio) and convert the video from 480 to 1080. The audio is digitized and output through a toslink jack. The box will also accept 3 HDMI sources. You can then select from 7 inputs to output to the one HDMI jack. See the item description for more details. In some situations, this "box" maybe helpful. I am going to use the box for my CED players. Their video is not that great; but, the HDMI is version 1.3 so it should not matter.

great job! (Please excuse my typing. My eyboard will not let me type the letter between J and L or a comma.. I believe it is on its last legs and I will need to replace it soon.) Than you. I have a Radio Shac Video/Audio Control Center that I can connect to 4 inputs. Originally it was made for 2 VCR's an LD and an aux inputs. I plan on ta_ing the Control Center's ouput and feed it into the Hitachi Video Center and then feed the HDMI ouput to my AVR. In this way I can hoo up to 4 CED players and still get sound and vision to my AVR. I will report later on how well converting CED composite video to HDMI goes. Maybe the PQ will be bad. (I just read what I typed above and I feel li_e a moron lol. )

I have one of those. I think it’s one of those. It was meant to “expand” some dumb TV they made with no ports in the name of thin-ness. IMO, it sucks, but to be fair I was so disappointed with it that I only ran it for 20 minutes. This is the same mediocre unit some forum member had multiples of years back, right? If not, I’m totally wrong and I apologize. I should clarify, it does it’s job no problem, but not any better than a TV with this built into it already. It’s a great tool to have around, it just doesn’t look very good compared to almost every other thing I have. Also, I have lots of CRTs so I’m not someone to menu dive forever trying to shine a turd when I can just have it look great by default on a period display.

It can wor_ with a video processor which I have. I don't _now if I will use it though.

You originally linked to a box that’s basically an entire TV minus the actual display, the Hitachi AVC08U.

I am going to use the Archer Video Audio Control center to switch the outputs from 4 CED's and feed one of the composite signals into the AVC08U. The converted output of the AVC08U will then go into a DS3300ES AVR so the HDMI can be switched to at any time. That is how the Archer got into this mess. Sorry if you got confused.

signofzeta wrote: That’s right, the one I got came with a cheap universal remote. I think we bought bought the same thing from the same guy at the same time. I bought my AVC from rixrex on the CEDmagic.com forum. The remote is marked "CHUNGHOP Universal Remote". It is as cheap as you could get. I bought the AVC in order to upconvert CED video to display on an HDTV,

The AVC08U uses the same remote as the Hitachi UT monitors. Those remotes are scarce as I did a search on E-bay and found zilch. You need such a remote as there are a lot of functions that are only available on it (per the AVC08U operating manual). If I cannot find a remote, the 2 AVC08U's are really useless to me. For now, I will continue to search for a remote. If I cannot find one within a a reasonable time, I guess I will sell the 2 AVC97U's that I have on E-bay.
Originally, I bought the AVC08U to convert the 480 lines video from my CED players to 1080 for an HDTV. That was before I bought a new (to me) Sony DA3300ES AVR. The DA3300ES can upconvert a 480 video to 1080 internally thus making the AVC08U useless to me.
Anyone want to buy an AVC08U?
