Last year I went inside a collectible vintage toy store in a populated city. This store had a lot to offer! Ranging from Star Wars, Transformers, Star trek and etc toys. As I went further into the store I see that they carry retro video games, dating back to Intellivision and the like. In the corner of the store I see a very small section in the back with some records. As some of you guys may know, places like this like to mislabel or not know the difference between a laserdisc or a record. As I sift through the collection it was in fact they were only just records. I asked the guy at the counter to humor myself "By any chance do you carry laserdiscs or have seen some in your time here?" The guy starts laughing and goes "No one buys those! Everytime we get a laserdisc in we destroy it and then throw it away!" My heart dropped just hearing that as I explain to him the value that laserdiscs still have. He thought I was just joking about just to make him feel bad.

T2 and Speed.

Lets hope the fool doesn't decide to keep all of the T2 and Speed that he gets now.

I still need T2. Want the squeeze LD though..

hey how come the T3000 actually looks good in this movie? I mean CGI in SW:TLJ looks so out of place but the CGI In T2 is decent. Isn't overused for absolutely everything, just with one crazy character. It works and was done in f'n 1991!

does a "mention" count?

Was watching "humans" series 2 episode 4 and a character (trinity from "the matrix") says:

"someone else will hire me to do it, and in the next 20 years, Qualia will be mentioned in the same sentance as LaserDiscs and Betamax"

(ouch)

Saw some laserdiscs in an J-pop MV. Ya Me Te by Especia.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAR1L1vVfHA

Discs make an appearance at the beginning and around the 3:10 mark. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised since their music and videos are heavily 80s influenced.

Might not be an appearance but a mention on a UK TV quiz show.

On "The Chase" today one of the questions was.....

'DiscoVision' was the original name for which of these video formats?

A. Laserdisc B. Betamax C. Blu-ray

The contestant got the question correct.

Another mention years ago was on "Top Gear".

During the co op of Portal 2 at the end of each level you had to play a laserdisc in a drive.

On his Hollywood Babylon podcast Kevin Smith recently reminisced about his time as a film student in Canada in the very early '90s. He said his parents used to send him a little money and say it was for a bus pass or something and he'd just walk and buy a laserdisc with it.

Get sent to Android Hell probably. Bit of trivia: I'm sure at some point in the game its mentioned that GLaDOS is partly powered by laserdiscs.

Because they think it'll never sell, so for them it just takes space that could be used for something profitable, the same reson why the big names of the agrobusiness destroy millions of "uncorrectly shaped" fruits and vegetables that are perfectly edible.

I got an idea for a thread last night. I was watching Masa Takagi Pastel Colours and the camera goes past a familiar street in Melbourne Australia in the early '80s.

The thread would be called: "Unexpected appearances of places in Laserdiscs"..

I couldn't snap a picture of it but on the Hong Kong Airport Express (Kowloon to Airport), they play some videos on screens and one of them was about taking pictures of the "historical" Hong Kong to preserve memories and I'm quite sure one of these "old goot times" shops was displaying LaserDiscs!

They were too shiny to be anything else :-)
