Last night I watched Strange Days (1995) [0893984]. Wow! I think this may have taken the crown from Jurassic Park (1993) [41830] for me. It's certainly the best CLV disc I've seen. There was very little CLV smearing (I only noticed a little during the end credits) and there was no video noise to be seen. The picture is just so clear and colourful, particularly the final scenes with all the confetti and lighting. This disc is really worth checking out.

Indeed, Strange Days does look very good from what I remember. Haven't seen it in a couple of years though.

I must say I have never seen the Jurassic Park LD myself. I own the German PAL release.

Is the US release really that great ? I have heard many things about it.

It's pretty darn good, especially the audio, which is top notch.

Enemy of the State is also one of the better discs around.
Owned the US release once. got it when released. Very impressive picture.

Got me the Japanese LD a few years ago. Same stunning quality.

Maybe there is some slight differences between movies but these are made to watch with analog TV. So, if you have full HD(like i)telly you can find more blur with it. I find still picture is pretty good.

I'd like to add, of course is difference with movie masters too if compare movie from early 70's to 2000 release. If master is low quality it is shown in LD, even with some re-mastering. Gears get better too i have Pioneer's top model (at the time) but later model's has small improvements.

I've got a few of the TNG PAL discs. I always thought like most TV NTSC conversions of the time it looked very fuzzy and soft, both on TV and LD. Maybe that's just because everything else I was watching on TV at the time was higher resolution PAL.

The PAL TNG episodes all suffer from speeded up audio and once you notice it you can't un notice it. Most noticable during the opening sequence when Patrick does his space, the final frontier...

This is why when it comes to Star Trek I rather buy the NTSC versions and spend more on importing. At least the sound sounds right.

I'm surprised that neither of these titles have been listed.

Wild Wild West (1999) [17794]
Great picture and sounds. Very clear and clean image with little to no noise. AC-3 sound mix is great. Fun movie too.

What Dreams May Come (1998) [ID5486PG]
A stunning masterpiece of a movie. It's visually spectacular and looks amazing on LD. Beautiful colors, good detail, clean image. Superb soundtrack as well with a great AC-3 mix.

Indeed! Bought a copy out of curiosity and was amazed by the quality of it, totally clear and colourful picture plus a stunning soundstage. Thumbs up!

I remember reading in The Laserdisc Newsletter in the review of the DTS LD release of Strange Days that the DTS mix didn't improve much upon the Dolby Digital release, which I found surprising.

Guess I'll have to check that disc out one of these days since I've never seen the movie either.

Strange Days is such a quintessential 90's film in the sense that it's downright charming in it's datedness. Kind of want that disc myself for that reason :D

Plus it has the original sound (sampled later) for "Right Here, Right Now" by Fatboy Slim :-)

Also, right after you show this movie to friends, get a Minidisc from a drawer and tell them you found a way to source the recording/playing device on the black market.
Since most people have never seen a Minidisc in their life, they will freak out!

There's also that whole fear of the Y2K going on that seemed to be popular back then, you find a similar sentiment in 12 Monkeys, but Strange Days is a significantly less a downer of a movie.

I only saw the PILF-2361 version. DTS version should be even better as it is released 1 year after.
