Revel in the times we are in to be sure ! ! !
There is a saying in Tibet "one never knows when they are having good luck" .........

Keep your health, work hard, don't let the m****fers get you down, and keep rust off your irons !

Oh and seeing the new film convinced me to finally get a copy of the original on LD. Can't wait to check out the CC version when it arrives!

Which LD copy?

Which LD copy?

In the LD world CC usually means Criterion Collection.

If you are asking which copy in terms of CAV or CLV then that's another story.
The version in the VK box set was nice but it was not the real release, no overdubbing from Dekker when tracking down the snake and
the removal of the stunt woman going through the glass was real hard for me to deal with as I've seen the CC so many times.

Also I've been waiting for someone to mention when Dekker looks at the picture of the "young" Rachel you see in the background the shadows are moving and nobody has ever mentioned that in anything I've seen.

Rein-o is correct. I was referring to the Criterion Collection and specifically the CAV release: Blade Runner: Special Edition #19 (1982) (Uncut) [CC1120L]

Definitely a must own.

I will have to go back and watch the scene more closely to see what you mean.

Same Criterion Collection contents on the Japanese release Blade Runner (1982) (Uncut) [NJL-20008] although the transfer has been described as softer than the CC release.

Since you have the CAV still step it and you will notice, its pretty weird that so many have picked apart that film but to my knowledge nobody has ever mentioned it before.

I only ever bought the CLV but when it was new and I think it cost a mini fortune then, about 50 bucks if I remember correctly.
But it was the only way to get it in widescreen and I remember my father reading reviews about it before we bought our LD player
and they were amazed at how you could actually see the rain drops compared to the VHS where they said it was all blur in the review.

Great memories rein-o
Priceless actually.

Seeing the difference for the first time between VHS and "the new kid on the block" LaserDisc made history in my life.
DvD stills pales in comparison just based on the packaging, linear notes, photo inserts, spectacular gatefold jackets .....
AND the assorted tracks of narrative commentary offered on specific titles ....

So sorry dvd, LaserDisc was a tough act to follow .....

Cheers to the membership ......

And if your following laserbite34, get your act together and get back to the fold sir ! ! ! ;)

I have this one. Only thing I don't like is the cover. The font used for the title is really generic and the art used isn't great either (Is that Harrison Ford or Brian Denehy?)

Very disappointed . What I saw was a film that conjured up all the imagery it could to create the look of a Blade Runner film and nothing more .

I bought the BR when it came out but still haven’t watched it. I figure I’m about %99 likely to be disappointed so I’m not in a hurry. I never asked for a sequel to this, probably the greatest science fiction movie ever. Never wanted a sequel. Ever. But it exists so I’ll give it a shot.

I mainly got it just because I rarely watch any of those stupid sequels and superhero things and I felt I should at least make an attempt to remain in society on some level.

When I do give it a shot it will be with headphones but don’t tell anyone...

I remember reading about Siskel or Ebert when reviewing films one must do so on the first viewing of the film and can't after multiple viewings.

This makes sense as you get the first reaction and comments from films.

To sidetrack this a little, I just watched Valerian last night. Wow I was 64 minutes in and realized that it was over 2hrs long.
Nice to look at but very forgettable to say the least.

I just got my copy of 2049 yesterday. Haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

The film is now $14.99 from Amazon. Get them while they are hot.

So I checked out this scene and I remember this now. There is actually some children laughing in that scene as the shadows move as well, though I found the laughter easier to hear on my BD copy than on the CC CAV release. I also watched this scene on the workprint version with the Paul Sammon commentary playing and he remarks upon it. He says it is a surreal moment that he thinks is influenced by a 1962 French short called La Jetée, which is a film of all still shots, save one which moves. Sammon thinks Scott simply copied the idea for Blade Runner.

Either way, I think it is a commentary on the reality of memory, even though the photo is a fake memory implanted in Rachel's mind.
