Or other titles that play without any issues? How long have you had this pressing and did you buy it off eBay recently? Julian, what would serious rot look like would it be visible on the disc as one member (cessnaace) pointed out in Youtube-video some nasty looking dark spots on the disc and I have yet to come across one myself, could it be halfmac has them on his, Lawrence of Arabia pressing or maybe the discs are cracked and he hasn't noticed it if the disc is cracked it won't play.

i've never had any trouble with discs unless it was cracked, warped, but even then part of the disc would play. never had any bad rot that the disc would not play. Years ago a member elsewhere on another site sent me a load of Laserdiscs he didn't want an I still have them. One was Return of the Jedi part of all the STAR WARS CLV THX set Starting out from the centre hole and only by several millimetres here's what it looks like. This is program contended side 3 if the crack went over by another 10 or so millimetres I'd doubt it would be read by the laser. Side 4 shows how bad it is this side won't play as the crack has gone over the non-program not sure of its blue screen with text or a Turtle on its back?

I saw Lawrence of Arabia at the Odeon Marble Arch, London in 70mm Dolby SR and then twice at the local Odoen where they fitted the Dolby CP50 with SR cards for the presentation. It was way, way better at the Marble Arch on the towering screen that my dad said, it used to be the largest screen in London when he lived there. The sound was fantastic with crazy wild wide dialouge panning that had me looking to far left/right and between as well as centre channel and mono surround was okay, sub bass rumbled when thousands of horses and Arabs charged. "NO PRISONERS"! The deep curved screen while sat front and centre with floor sloping up with curve WOW BREATHTAKING! with 70mm projection and Dolby SR.

Of course, the obvious question would be: "Which edition?" There's the CAV edition, of course (#78), and the CLV edition (#78A) exists in press runs from at least three different plants. I have a Pioneer pressing, and I'd seen (at the old much-missed Sight & Sound shop in Massachusetts) a copy pressed by Kuraray, and another one pressed by 3M (the CAV was also pressed by 3M). I assume that the Pioneer CLV was the initial pressing, as it was typical for a while for Criterion to have CAVs pressed by 3M and CLVs by Pioneer. What's odd is that the jackets of the other two pressings still said "First Printing". But then, beyond the first 8 or 9 titles, I don't think I'd ever seen a "Second Printing" (or later) on any title.
