Yeah, i remember the controversy of 4-pixel wide nude people. How you get any kind of "rise" oiut of 4-pixel wide naked people.  Seriously, I thought Rampage in 1987 was a video game by Midway about 3 monsters destroying buildings. |

I agree. That is extremely quick. It could knock a disc out of the well once in a while perhaps. I knew what the problem was, a way too fast ejector uncentering the disc. The only mechanical problem I had with a front loader was a speedy tray. I think someone juiced the motor before I found it at a thrift store. I did use to own a Panasonic LX-101 and I did find the tray to be a tad faster than most of my Pioneer units but nothing really excessive. How much faster a... |

Most people have used both with none of the issues you describe. Aside from the Dreamcast laser dying, that’s almost guaranteed to happen. A laser lens is like 8mm around and fixed in place. As t the claim that top loaders are easier to maintain than front loaders: I have a Panasonic LD player with an overly fast eject tray, and that was hard to repair. Luckily a guy said he could fix that specific issue and did not address the issue I stated, causing him to give me credit towards a Pio... |

I think formats where the spindle can’t touch the disc are the thing of the future. The last roprietary format that was exclusively "pop tops" were the Nintendo Game Cube and Sega Dreamcast. PS2 was a tray loader, Xbox Prime was a tray loader. Xbox 360 was a tray loader. Then afeter that, ... |

There really is no such thing as a foolproof player, because I had a Panasonic LD player where the tray was moving so fast that (I believe) it shook the disc off-center and the spindle failed to grab the center. All the problems I had with it were it failing to grab the disc, but once the disc grabb... |

My point is this. With tray load, assuming you keep the media relatively flat, if you accidentally miss center you could slide the media until it seats inside the tray, locked in. and there’s no spindle in the center which could scratch the media. To answer the core question here, “how many people were so stupid and trusting of a store that they litterally thought that their Sears system was something other than a 2600 I’m pretty sure it’s like the OP and two other dumb uncles”.
