I'm just in the throes of ripping up yet another of those over 50s funeral plan type letters as I begin to type, it's my birthday next week so there tends to be a flurry of these things around this time of the year. Anyway you just gave the game away when mentioning Concessionary Travel Cards as I have exactly 1 year plus 7 days to wait until I qualify, unless of course it's valid from a different age in Scotland?
There's one thing here for sure though, Teddanson is a mere whippersnapper compared to us!
You can apply for the travel card thing in Scotland when you are 60 (shhh!!!).
Have a very happy birthday when it comes  .

the Brits sure had to deal with a whole lot of pure BS back then... no wonder their Televised media comes across as so flat-out Wonky.
Yes but we had many real gems among the dross, a few truly brilliant programmes & series.... to many to name.
One 1960s series that stands out for me is The Prisoner which still holds up very well today. Loved by some, hated by others but hard to ignore.
Going to re-watch I, Claudius soon. A series that I have not seen for what must be 30 years but I do remember it well. I picked up the BBC DVD set new from a supermarket clearance sale for only a few pounds & could not pass it up.
Enjoy the Space 1999s, don't think I could sit through many of them now & the second series was just too naff for me.
Cheers  |

I received this yesterday :x
https://i.postimg.cc/1XshMXkS/20210204-194038.jpg
Ouch!
Very disappointing when an LD arrives like that.
Had three arrive in a similar sorry state over fifteen or so years & they were all poorly packed. Perhaps not a bad fail rate but so preventable & one was a French F1 LD release that I have not seen since. Not so called valuable or sought after as such but to me it was a bit of a pisser, hopefully another will turn up but it was twelve years ago - I don't mind playing the waiting game but that one still irks me.
Hope another turns up for you soon.
Cheers |

Sorry to highjack but whats the PQ on these players like? These DVD/LD players seem to appear very often in New Zealand
Fully with laserfanhld-gb on the picture quality.
Had three PAL/NTSC versions & one NTSC version pass through my hands over the years & the picture quality is very soft indeed.
I personally was very unimpressed with them, nice looking units but not great as LD players & the DVD bit was also rather poor.
If cheap & fully working though might be good to have as a back up unit. |

Yes that is quite late for a disc of that type I would think also.
Interesting & thanks for posting . |

As zeta has said the DVD bit was upgraded though it even back when it was issued the DVD quality was not rated highly at all.
A bit from the LASERDISCARCHIVE site....
Compared with the older DVL-909, the new DVL-919 sports some welcome enhancements. For a start, it delivers DTS audio and has higher-tech DACs, which improves both S/N ratio and colour noise.
Yet the chroma crosstalk - a measurement of colour bleed from chrominance to luminance channels - is no better. And although good, the resolution is not significantly superior either.
In summary, there's little point of upgrading from a 909 to a 919 unless you specifically have need to play DTS DVDs. Upgrading from LD, though, is another matter entirely. If you have an old machine that's creaking at the edges, this Pioneer is clearly for you. It grants an upgrade to DVD whilst also allowing replay of your existing LDs. |

Le Mans had a very troubled gestation, there are quite a few accurate & informative articles on the net & elsewhere about it - it was so close to being pulled during production on more than one occasion.
Some genuinely shocking incidents during production, lifechanging for some.
It should also be noted that Steve McQueen did not attend at the premiere, did very little to publicise the film & took little interest in motorsport from that point on & he never raced in a car again.
As a film on the subject of racing though, it is rather special. |

Le Mans is the better film from a movie making perspective, cinematography in particular, but frankly all that insane crap you’re talking about turns me off, reminds me of Colin Chapman levels of anti-human stupidity. It’s anti-fun. Actual racing is enough of a meat grinder as it is. I’d rather the cars went a little slower and that we still had some more of these old guys to talk to.
When the F1 rule changes were announced in 1993 for the '94 season Ayrton Senna stated that it did not bode well & that the '94 season could result in an accident plagued year. I don't think anyone who followed motorsport in any way back then will ever forget that year. I was shocked & to be honest quite devastated with the events at Imola on the 30th of April & the 1st of May. It did change thing from that point but a hell of a price to pay for that to happen.
I love motorsport & still follow Formula One but something went on May 1st '94.
Who knows what Ayrton Senna would have gone on to do if he was still with us, a truly tragic loss. |

If you get round to ABSOLUTION is it the 95 minute version or the 85 minute so-called directors cut included in the set?

I got the Viavision release of The Keep today.
It's an official release and not a bootleg. Only available in Australia on DVD (imports aside of course). The Viavision release is the only DVD (well, it's the only legit DVD full stop) presented with a 2:35:1 print. It also has a 2.0 stereo track.
Also you get a reversible cover to get rid of the certificate labelling. I've reversed my copy already.
Gave the disc a quick skim already. It looks great and sounds great. Happy duck here, though I can't fathom why a Blu Ray wasn't an option when planning this release?

I bagged that one a little while ago, can't think of the last DVD I have bought prior to this.
It was quite cheap even with the postage from the other side of the world.
Don't get why it has not had a wider release & with you on the blu-ray - just pleased to have a good quality copy now.
Enjoy  . |

Yes, all inquiries for recent gears go to Pioneer but everything "vintage" (as in 10+ years) goes to Onkyo with very limited support.
Oh well... even 10+ years Onkyo/Integra goes to ... we don't support that type of hardware anymore .
Home Theater is kind of dead now. People go mostly streaming + sound bar.
This is the MP3 age of video.

As above.... if bought through ebay as working and it is not then you are pretty sure to get a refund but don't leave it too long before starting the process.
Good luck. |

Interesting post erbert777, thanks for that.
Could be interesting for someone.
Before plugging it in & spinning it up it really should have where it was originally factory lubricated checked as it will more than likely have gummed up, a clean & fresh lubrication would be a good idea.
Again a really interesting back story, thanks.
