With zeta on your posts/reviews & the little caveats in them like below make me smile, a few have creased me up!
The unstoppable, awesome and quite frankly LEGENDARY band Shakatak were asked by Kenwood (the electronics brand famous for many a pair of 6x9 holes cut in to the back of many a Ford Escort XR3i parcel shelf back in the day)
Must be about 30 years since I watched that one, now perhaps time to give it another view.
The opening/introduction was apparently added by John Boorman at the request of studio execs to help the audience understand what they were about to see.....
I am Arthur Frayn, and I am Zardoz. I have lived three hundred years, and I long to die. But death is no longer possible. I am immortal. I present now my story, full of mystery and intrigue - rich in irony, and most satirical. It is set deep in a possible future, so none of these events have yet occurred, but they may. Be warned, lest you end as I. In this tale, I am a fake god by occupation - and a magician, by inclination. Merlin is my hero! I am the puppet master. I manipulate many of the characters and events you will see. But I am invented, too, for your entertainment - and amusement. And you, poor creatures, who conjured you out of the clay? Is God in show business too?
The part played by Sean Connery was originally offered to Burt Reynolds but he apparently had to pull out before shooting started due to an injury or ill health at the time.
When I last watched this it was on VHS with a couple of friends & when it ended one of the chaps said "can someone tell me what have we just watched, that was a mind-fu+k that was."
Looks like I will be giving ZARDOZ a another viewing soon - looking forward to seeing it again.
"The Legend of N***er Charley", "The Soul of N***er Charley", "Boss N***er", The Black Bounty Killer, Boss & there may be other titles that it has gone by.
It apparently did fairly well in some territories on its initial release.
You find some pretty eclectic stuff - thanks for the interesting posts
A couple of months ago I had heard that one of my favourite films was being considered for a remake, it was among the lists of titles that get announced but 99% never even get to the pre-production stage - looks like this one is now in pre-production.
Two Lane Blacktop Action, Drama, Thriller Status ... Pre-production 1972 TWO BOYS EMBARK IN A RACE ACCROSS ROUTE 66. Now the real story begins as the 1970's opens up to us in music and time. Director: Justin Lin ... (Optioned) Writer: Jay Hopper Cast Matt Cornett ... Dennis Pia Mia Pia Mia ... Laurie Pitbull ... Warren Jasmine Jessica Anthony ... Amethist Kristen Hardimon ... Maria Guadalupe
TWO LANE BLACKTOP is based on the 1971 cult classic film; this time with a hugely reformed script, plot and dialog. Pop culture 1970 songs and events of the time period are tightly integrated in the film. A kaleidoscope view of America's heart and soul at this moment in time. Not only is this a good film, it's a wonderful look back in time to the full era.
I really hope that it gets no further than this.
I am not against remakes per se but some things should be left as is & this is one of them.
Two Lane Blacktop was a unique piece of filmmaking, how can it possibly be remade?
I could go on & on here but I will just end up ranting.
Two Lane Blacktop was & is a stand alone feature & I truly believe it should remain as that.
I could be being a little unfair though, is it just me perhaps?
$120 to $200 on here for this!?!.... optimistic pricing to say the least.
Had a couple of copies pass through my hands years ago, if I remember correctly it is not a particularly good transfer - almost had a VHS copy look to it & it comes with a crappy cover to boot.
It is nothing special & it does come up for sale on ebay on occasion for a few UK £s at most.
There are other "uncut" versions on LD which are not PDO pressings so they may be a better bet if it is a must have.
The US LD release of "Seconds - Special Edition" on LV066063-WS is a really good transfer & features a rather interesting commentary track with director John Frankenheimer.
Not sure if the commentary track featured on the LD is on the Criterion release, it was done especially for the LD release & John Frankenheimer mentions that during the commentary.
Great film, think I might spin the LD up this weekend.
