Not too well!

I'm basically skipping Blu-Ray to jump directly to 4K UHD for new releases.

For the moment it took just some hours of my free time.. not easy to find but i’m not in a hurry :)
The FDM tests cost me nothing (printer of a friend).

The first SLA protype cost me 11€... I expect it in few days.
It’s a « multijet fusion » printing, I invite you to watch some videos about this technic

The advantage is that when the object will be good (and I hope that the first prototype in SLA will be :D ) I’ll be able to print the part as many times as I want...

Note that my proto lab has also the possibility to « laser cut » the object in metal and it’s not very expensive compared to the original part sold by few guys on eBay...
It’s a possibility when I’ll be 100% sure of my 3D draw

I’ll let know my results :)

So, I received the first prototype today and I'm very impressed. It seems much stronger than the original part.

Here is 2 pictures:

http://www.ac-connect.be/ld/VNL1779_print_v1-2.JPG

When I'll be back home I'll try to assemble the holder with the gears on the pickup.
Maybe some sizes will need to be ajusted, but this first result is promising

I'll let you know my results :)

For AC3-RF I used this schematic:

http://www.n6eaj.com/diyaudio/ac3rfmod/ac3sche5.GIF

Coming from this page: http://www.n6eaj.com/diyaudio/ac3rfmod/ac3rfmod.html

With some breadboard it will be fairly simple to build. I also investigated adding SPDIF to my CLD 3760KV but since it doesn't support PAL I decided to add AC3-RF to my CLD 2950. I found this during my research:

It obviously starts w/ needing points for the player to do either of the mods.

For AC3-RF, I assume the 4400 is very similar to the 4300 (don't hold me to it; just guessing since they look very similar) of which we have the service manual available here....

http://manuals.lddb.com/LD_Players/Pioneer/LD/LD-V4300D/

If you go to page 16 of the pdf, it appears to show where many of the points for the mod are located (e.g.: RF, +5V, -5V, and GND are located on connector CN1 and Mute appears to be on connector CN16 or CN18). Not sure if this 4400 is a Mute Active High (MAH) or Mute Active Low (MAL) player since it appears to be a PAL capable machine which are usually MAL (this makes a difference since a mod board needs to be built for either design).

Once you know that information, then you need to build the AC3-RF board. This is the version I made for my Pro-Scan player...

https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=7827

This board is made specifically for an MAH player.

Moving on to the S/PDIF output, you can buy a kit from ebay to make this job easier but you'll still need to get the information on where the digital output resides in the player. Once again, going back to the service manual, page 24 of the manual shows the AudB board and the digital output appears to be located on IC-306, pin 60 (DOUT). You'll also need to verify if pin 59 (MD2) is pushing 5VDC as this indicates if the digital output is switched on for the chip (a reading of 0VDC means it's off but I believe you just need to jump 5v to it to get it turned on).

Anyway... here is the digital output kit that I will be using for my digital out mod on my CLD-M90....

https://www.ebay.com/itm/CDROM-car-navigation-digital-signal-shaping-buffer-board-SPDIF-fiber-coaxial-out-/132130972507?hash=item1ec39ea35b

Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi everybody, I also posted in a previous thread, but for those not following that thread, I'm happy to announce that I've begun manufacturing an equivalent replacement for the VEB1237 grip ring. Search for it on ebay and you'll find it, of find me over at Laserdisc Forever on facebook.

Could be a bad RPM sensor. If the motor bearings went bad the RPM slotted ring can drop down on the RPM sensor rub the plastic casing until it covers the hole or the sensor could be bad. If good then it is a disc reading issue or bad electronics.

Need to check if pin 59 needs the 5 volt.

In most cases I would think it’s already powered as my CLD-M90 is powered already. Just make sure to use a voltmeter in continuity mode to trace out from pin 59 and then take the measurement from where a larger pin is located on the board (just to avoid shorting out the chip).

Curious to see the boards arrive. The cable would be included. Fair price for a decent boards.

Haven’t used mine yet but i’m sure it will work fine. I’m probably going to use a different RCA jack for my mod as I don’t like the size of the one provided. Also, trying to figure out a method to cut out a square opening so I can also run the optical output. And yes, the coax cable is included.

Nice optical output mod.

At first I thought it was a factory output and then I noticed the back panel was transplanted. I wouldn't mind doing something like this for my M90 mod but I don't have any spare parts like that lying around. When I get a chance to start on my mod, I'll create a detailed post on it.

Good to know that your digital out on the chip will work on the LD-V4400.

Wow... you work fast ;) . And nice work on the mod. I like the way you implemented the back panel; gives me some ideas for my upcoming mod.

Hope you didn’t actually try to solder the wire directly to the leg of the chip for the digital output. If so, that’s much harder. I always look for a bigger point that makes continuity with the pin on a chip.

Soldered it straight to the leg :?
Didn’t investigate the sihnal path but the next one I’ll do that.
Not sure if it does have a signal path actually :?:
It was trial and error soldering on a scrap board to get the hang of it.

As long as you did not damage it, you should be good.

In any case, most larger chips (especially from yesterday's electronics) will have an obvious signal path that is usually easy to follow with a good eye and a voltmeter set to continuity mode to verify the path.

Here is an example of the DSP chip off of my CLD-M90....

https://i.vgy.me/k4aU8k.jpg

It makes it so much easier to solder to the pin that my voltmeter probe is touching in the pic. :)

Hi Kris,
do you get error messages? If not try to get it in test mode (see service manual), you have service remote so it is easy, you should get a lot of information on screen...

Could it be the laser used for LD/cd doesn't go as far as dvd laser and thus it cannot read CD intro lead track?

Regards Edwin

The spindle motor centering is more critical with CD's and DVD's, this needs to be checked

Gratz, its also fun selling off not just buying as a collector.

While there are some really cool formats out there, I too don't care for tape that much and got rid of most many years ago.
Every now and then I'll pickup an audio cassette tape and would play it on my deck but haven't in years.

Tape is tape and I don't feel in the time we are in there is a place when we have so many disc formats to chose from.

Glad to know they went to collectors rather than the dump, most if they had them wouldn't know what they had and would just toss them.

If you include the non-US market players the CU-CLD108 and CU-CLD109 will operate the CLD-79 and CLD-99. They just have a few buttons for graphics that have no function on US models.

They should be the same as they’re basically the same thing except for cosmetics. I would think the CLD-95 would also share similarities w/ the 97

I suspect some CU-CLD remotes share the same electronics inside...?
Interesting. I haven't thought about this. I have disassembled many backlit remotes (usually to properly stop corrosion), but I haven't paid attention to the components. Looking back at photos of a CU-CLD121 and CU-CLD098 that I happened to take, the boards are marked ALPS which I believe is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alps_Electric

I don't like disassembling these if I don't have to, but the next time I do I'll document all the components.

Thanks. Those look to be the same ICs then in the CU-CLD121.

When the DVD spins up, the pickup is a little ways back from the spindle. It will then jump all the way to the spindle motor to read the lead-in tracks. I've seen where it will jump forward and then act like it loses focus and the laser shuts down. The DVD tangential adjustment screw (rear corner, opposite the motor) may be off. Try adjusting 1/4 turn either direction. But remember where you started, and don't turn it more than 1/2 rotation in either direction. You won't damage anything, but getting it back to the correct spot will make you pull all your hair out.

There are two position switches on the bottom plate to signal the processor when the laser is at LD and CD position, they could be intermittent and need to be replaced

.. anyways, it seems to me like this would work? Just adding the TOSLINK plug? Maybe there's a cap (C895) right there missing?

The empty toslink cutout could work if you can verify that the power and signal connections actually still go there. If you have a voltmeter set on continuity mode, you can follow the digital out back to the DSP chip as follows....

https://i.vgy.me/mzN8WB.png

If you follow it carefully, it should end up @ pin 43.

https://i.vgy.me/PSJVSd.png

Anybody else every add a optical out to any of these? Or any I just wasting my time on a perfectly PRISTINE working machine.

It's very doable. I'm still working on adding one to my CLD-M90. I plan on using this kit to make it happen....

https://i.vgy.me/zhKnGz.jpg

And as an FYI... here is where the digital output is located on this player (I have already researched if this digital out connection leads back to an empty toslink socket and I verified that it does not).

Forgot to mention.

My understanding (at least from what I have read) is that many European LD players have a "Mute Active Low" (MAL) mute control so you have to consider that when building your board. I tried unsuccessfully to conceive of a board that can do both types of mute.

To find out for sure if your player has either version, find the mute point and place a voltmeter on the point to see how the voltage fluctuates during play / pause (MAH = +5V on pause & 0V on play and MAL = +5V on play & 0V on pause).

You can read up on some information on this posting (7th post down).

https://laserdiscplaza.fr/forumld/viewtopic.php?t=579

And this is the actual circuit diagram I used on my recent mods that are for MAH players only.
