But first submit it fully to the database, it would make a mysterious entry for the 60,000th LD!

I ended up doing it.

Here comes our 60,000th LD in database!

D/L Magic Journeys Mainshow - Digital Audio Disc #1 (1986) [---]

I don't think we'll ever make it to 70,000 so we can pop up champagne now :-)

Just remembered, I only have one but these are part of the Southwest Film/Video Archives Classic Film Collection.

I think we already have this one managed => Classic Film Collection (CFC)

Good catch on the Silent Movies ones, I quickly found 7 via covers => Silent Movies

Some releases are even in both!

Would places like movie retailers buy it to play in their stores, maybe?

More like a fansub done either from the Japanese VHS or LD, using an Amiga or Atari with a genlock to add subtitles layer and record them on VHS.

Typically, for French Anime conventions in the 90's, I would convert a LD + subtitles to S-VHS and later make VHS copies from the S-VHS "master".
We only did this for titles not commercially available in Europe.

The bad xerox'ed cover screams "home-made".

This is also why some or most early CDs are commanding money, they are transferred directly from the analog tapes thus
have the original sound.

It's not that straight forward... 1st gen CDs (like my Iron Maidens) sound better not because the transfer was from tape (even the recent remasters were from tapes) but because they didn't over-compressed/brick-walled the mastering to sound loud/good on portable devices.

Example: http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list/year?artist=Iron+Maiden&album=Number+of+the+beast

In that case the vinyl/early CDs are the way to go.

But some early CDs were awfully mastered because the sound engineers were oldskool vinyl and didn't know how to properly master for digital.
Most of the early Beatles or Rolling Stones sound quite bad.

Remember how SONY would make a LOT of noise about Glenn Gould's Goldberg variation 1981 sounding the best on CD/Digital?
30 years later they conceded that it was better with the increase in technology to fall back to the Analog backup master and re-issued SACDs/CDs based on the analog tapes!

Yet, I have an example of a TERRIBLE Digital ->vinyl transfer: Imagine Dragons ‎– Night Visions
Unbearable, it's makes your ears bleed. Tried it twice, then promptly sold to a teenager in HK who thought it sounded "so much better than the CD".

Don't under-estimate the power of marketing and group-induced self-perpetuating influence :-)

But we are in a new cycle now that makes things interesting again:

Vinyl -> compressed to within 20~20Khz due to media limitation
CD -> same then over-compressed starting mid-90's
Streaming -> compressed mix will sound flat, uncompressed mix sound better!

It's a nightmare for sound engineers who now have to release 2 or 3 different mixes -- and sometimes multiple different mastering levels depending on the streaming platform!

Very interesting video about this here:

Ah, same as iTunes then, sort of a let down.

Quite sure these are not on iTunes (except for Stardust).
Lucky for me I was on a Roulé wave before the robots epilogue'd and sent their prices skyrocket'ing.

Roulé-Scratché.jpg

Now.. only ROULE 301, 309 and the 2 TOGETHER to go.

But almost no Crydamoure to be found in Japan.

Are you happy to stick with your laserdisc version of a film or do you upgrade to the blu-ray or 4K version when it becomes available?

I've got an easy upgrade path :-)

I skipped VHS.
Went big into LD.
Mostly skipped DVD (except for music/concerts recorded post-2000).
Barely touched BluRay.
But I DO upgrade to 4K whenever a title I like shows up.

So for me... LD => 4K

Can't wait for the Indiana Jones 4K boxset to come join the Indiana Jones Trilogy [PILF-1560] and the Indiana Jones: The Soundtracks Collection .

Same for BTTF => Back to the Future Trilogy [PILF-1583] , 4K UHD boxset and Intrada Special Collection for first two movies. Sadly I sold the Hi-Vision LD Trilogy years ago.

I don’t remember that name from when it ran on Super Sunday or whatever in the US. I think it was Ulysses 3000 or something like that.

French title was "Ulysse 31" because it takes place in the 31st century.

Note that if you are a fan of the "good" Shuki Levy/Haim Saban musical works, the Ulysse/Ulysses 31 expanded soundtrack was just released on a double digipack CD limited to 500 copies, ref RADX-01 , using newly discovered master tapes. Others (Cities of Gold) are likely destroyed/lost by now...

https://arksquare.net/jacket/ulysseimage.jpg

Was available on Intrada among other places on March 10th when I received their newsletter and ordered my copy but it looks like it's already sold out there after 24h.

Few other places listing "in stock":

https://arksquare.net/detail.php?cdno=RADX-01
https://www.intermezzomedia.com/ulysse-31-40th-anniversary-expanded-archival-collection-2cd-radx-01-4260146139675.html
https://tower.jp/item/5155532/Ulysse-31%EF%BC%9A-40th-Anniversary-Expanded-Archival-Collection

Will nicely complete my Cities of Gold/Mystérieuses cités d'or LP+TV soundtrack and He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe .

Cover submission question: If I have a cover/box that's missing an obi and there's no cover image yet in the database, should I submit a photo without the obi anyway and update the page to indicate where the obi should be in the picture? (In this case I've seen a picture in the wild that shows it would go on top.)

Hello!

A photo even without a obi is better than no photo at all so you can sent it over.
And if you know where the obi should be, it's also good to send an update for that.

Maybe someone will later send a photo with obi.

GDPR / PCI DSS / pseudonimisation / PII / salt / SAR

Since you seem to know what these words mean, could you enlighten us?

I have a cookie validation popup (yearly), a Privacy section, passwords are salted and hashed one-way, and accounts are deleted when someone requests it. I do not have financial information such as CC numbers or other Government IDs, etc. It's REALLY simple and minimalist.

What else is needed?

Extra details:

Since the website is nearly 20 years old, I had my share of learning about the "bad guys" out there.

0/ Up to date Debian 10/recent kernel
SPECTRE, MELTDOWN and ZombieLoad mitigated: https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8430

1/ China and Iran IPs are constantly blocked.

Too many hack attempts.

2/ TOR exit nodes are blocked.

I don't like anonymous hacking.

You can see on https://banhammer.lddb.com/ that the world spam/hack center is Brazil these days.
But we do have some good members from Brazil, can't block the whole country.

3/ I had the database crash twice in the past. One time was recoverable, the 2nd time was not.

Now I backup EVERYTHING daily in a distant storage + log every modifying SQL query in a local text file. In theory we can at most lose 24h if everything burns down -- like it happened to many websites at OVH Strasbourg last week .

4/ Also had a successful SQL injection hack in... 2014? They found a way to access the password stored in the database but quickly realized they were hashed+salted and gave up. Then they checked my sister's eShop database and found the Credit Card table empty and completely gave up.

Another successful hack (well, more of a cache poisoning) fixed here: https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8809

Since then, anything resembling a SQL statement in a HTTP query will get your banned for 1 month.
Trying again will block you for 12 months.

Same for trying to get SMTP or IMAP account passwords.

5/ I follow reports like https://www.openbugbounty.org/reports/1566947/
As far as I can tell, I fixed all the bugs but the website is not updating to reflect that.

6/ No more username with @ that are actually the account email address

7/ No more disclosing the seller's address in a buying transaction notice

8/ Accessing 2 non-existing (404) pages in a row will block you for a while. All internal links are valid, you should never click on a bad one unless you modified something manually.

9/ I have a special welcome message for script kiddies running automated attacks with popular scripts bundles.

If you think about something else, I'm interested!

Though as I post now the auction is still not finished!!!

Last time I posted AFTER the auction was over and it reached (Panasonic) over $850 anyway.
I think whoever is looking for these will quickly find them since they are mostly posted in the "LD Player" section. Hard to miss!

From the bidding list, it seems these are all proxy bidders, I imagine the usual suspects on the MUSE YAJ -> eBay trade/arbitrage.

Hello!

One of our best sellers here challenged me to make some improvements to the order reporting, while trying a few things, I also fixed a few bugs and added new links.

So... I tried a few things:

On the "Selling Orders": https://www.lddb.com/shop_orders.php

1/ Your selling orders will be ordered only by descending dates (no more aggregated by status)
2/ It just hit me that I never finished (2 lines of codes!) adding the Order # lookup as well! (the whole Order number without the #)

Now if you go to your Sales Report: https://www.lddb.com/shop_report.php

3/ It looks the same but click on a year, then click on a month and you will only see the orders for THAT month.

https://www.lddb.com/shop_orders.php?month=2021-02

4/ If it's empty, it might be because you already archived the orders . In that case click on "ALL": (always ALL by default now)

https://www.lddb.com/shop_orders.php?month=2021-02&show=all

5/ Now if you want them in ASCending order, just click on the "Date" column title.

https://www.lddb.com/shop_orders.php?month=2021-02&sort=date

Posted: 03 Apr 2021, 10:48

As usual... if we get to find at least 10 releases, we have a reasonable base to add the publisher!
(well some are below 10 but are clearly having gaps!)

Asian Clear View (ACV) - NTSC USA
Teichiku Video Disc - NTSC Japan
RCA Selectavision VideoDiscs - CED NTSC
Integral Video - PAL France
Videodiscovery, Inc. - NTSC USA
The Video Pool - PAL UK
BEAM Entertainment - NTSC Japan
Sovereign Entertainment Inc. - NTSC Malaysia
Moonstone Entertainment - NTSC Indonesia
Cinestar Film and Video Pte Ltd. - NTSC Singapore

Thanks to everyone who contributed enough new titles to reach the threshold!

I was wondering what this dude's story was, but a cursory web search brought up the track listing on the EvaGeeks wiki and basically nothing besides. "Canon and Gigue in D Major: String Quintet & Rap," Pachelbel/Sagisu/MALI, with "MALI" matching the katakana in the video.

A quick YouTube search finds this video on which one of the the first comment is from the artist himself ;-)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haxuZardUiI

That would be Andrew Allen but no more info after that I could find.
