He/She showed it on. I hope I have no issues for the testing working laserdisc player.
Best is to find local sellers that you can visit, test the player with discs (LD, CD) you might bring, etc. Then you just pay and bring it home.
Avoiding shipping is always a good idea for fragile hardware.

Wow, no more "message" box on eBay US.
Now it looks like chat with the seller (trying to copy Amazon?) with a very friendly and inviting message for the buyer:
Don't exchange contact info to Buy or sell outside of eBay policy. We scan and, in case of suspicious activity, manually analyze messages to identify potential fraud and Policy violations. Learn more
Is it an hommage to North Korea or East Germany?

I recently purchased a 2144 directly from Lumagen and it has a noisy composite input.
Covering the basics but I'm sure you did that already:
Did you try different devices with composite video output? Both composite (Vid11 and Vid12) had the same issue? Is it the most recent firmware? (072017)
I don't think power source is an issue as the R2144 has an external rectifier.
Keep us posted!

I never had a Pioneer remote without the STOP button.
I can see old Japanese models also had only PLAY no dedicated STOP button.
Old models only? 80's thing?

My top wishlist is quite off-track I suppose:
Stakker: Eurotechno [PILP-1009] Iron Giant, The (1999) [17644] Madonna: The Video Collection 93:99 (1999) [ID8713WO] Titan A.E. (2000) [PILA-3043] Bruce Dickinson: Dive! Dive! Live! World Tour 1990 (1991) [TOLW-3089]
They really don't show up often.

Absolutely ... Though volatile, crypto currencies (most importantly BITCOIN) is the logical answer to the central banking fiat system. We need a banking system that encourages faith in a free people and a truly free and uncontrolled market. Banking based on the fiat central bank model is the reason we are teetering on economic collapse globally imo. Bitcoin is a way to free up the control imo.
The logical next steps would be for governments to issue their own crypto-currencies, ban others and make cash harder to use.
That way they could track 100% of money moves and optimize taxation.

That was a funny take on LP vs LD!
https://thehardtimes.net/music/record-collector-fooled-by-big-crate-of-laserdiscs-again/
Record Collector Fooled by Big Crate of Laserdiscs Again
By Joe Rumrill | March 13, 2023
VALPARAISO, Ind. — Voracious record collector Anson Tugliss once again mistook a large box of Laserdiscs at an outdoor market for LPs before it was too late, sources at the flea market confirmed.
“ Damn it to hell, this always happens. I get too excited about seeing soundtracks for movies I never knew had vinyl releases. I was flipping through, all pumped and stuff…’Cabin Boy,’ ‘Mars Attacks!’ ‘George of the Jungle,’ stuff like that, y’know? ” said Tugliss, while angrily cracking a rare disc of “Spice World” over his knee. “ And then I pay the guy a huge wad of cash right before I realize, yet again, they’re of course Laserdiscs. Then all the guy can do is tap the ‘All Sales Final’ sign, before he taps the ‘We Don’t Sell Laserdisc Players’ sign. That guy’s got a sign for everything… ”
Vendors at the Valparaiso Flea report initial confusion over the enthusiasm shown for the clearly worthless form of media.
“ He’s got no case, he shouldn’t have been so inattentive. I wasn’t about to correct him, though. It’s tough to get rid of those things, especially these days. Everything he bought’s streaming free on Tubi as we speak ,” said flea market vendor Harv Laemmle. “ Next time I’ll try to trick him into taking some Betamax tapes too, and say that they’re regular cassettes and he’s just standing really close and his perspective’s off. I guarantee ya I could make that sale, the boy’s just that dim. ”
Laserdisc CEO Ralph Rowlhutt stated he’s just glad to have the short-lived video format back in the public eye.
“ Honestly, god bless that vendor for single-handedly keeping the Laserdisc economy flowing. Any day that Anson kid mistakenly buys a milk crate of my unwanted stock is another day that stock doesn’t end up in a secret landfill like all those ‘E.T.’ Atari games, ” said Rowlhutt, from his tiny office. “ I thank my lucky stars every day I decided to make Laserdiscs circular, and easily mistaken for records. I shudder at the thought of that coin landing the other way, and we had made them square. Scary to think about, sometimes that thought invades my nightmares and I don’t sleep for days. ”
When contacted for a final statement, Tugliss stated he’s been playing the Laserdiscs on his turntable anyway, and even started to enjoy the resulting horrible screeching noises. |

I have attached the front and back of the copy that I have. I am not sure if mine is considered Pioneer USA or Pioneer Japan.
Yours is the Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) [VLD 3205] with the Columbia Pictures Home Entertainment logo.
The other entry is Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) [VLD3205] with the RCA/Columbia Pictures Home Video logo.

Happened a LOT.
Usually cover design needed to be updated for additional UPC, change of publishing rights (companies merging, contracts expiring), change of style (VHS-size vs. full covers, different artists), price update, Digital Audio remaster, inclusion in a new series, etc.

Another reason to update the cover: UNIVERSAL changing it's logo after 1990.
Most SF0xx-nnnn tiles in the Hitchcock Library got a PILF re-release. Somehow this one kept the same catalog number.

James Cameron's The Abyss Surfaces For 4K Ultra SD Laserdisc With New 14-Disc Widescreen Letterbox Box Set!
Posted Sat Apr 1 , 2023 at 03:59 AM PDT by Matthew Hartman
At long last, James Cameron's 1989 aquatic science fiction adventure The Abyss: Special Edition is set to make a splashy return to physical media on July 4th, 2023.
With new generations of home video enthusiasts on social media accounts like YouTube and TicTok discovering retro home video formats, The Abyss will come home with a massive 14-Disc Laserdisc set remastered from a brand new 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision Transfer in vivid 420i with an immersive Dolby Atmos track presented in Dolby Digital Stereo.

Coming to 4K Ultra SD Laserdisc July 4th, 2023!
Burbank, CA (April 1, 2023)
James Cameron’s 1989 special effects science fiction extravaganza The Abyss: Special Edition makes a glorious return to physical media with a brand new deluxe 14-Disc 4K Ultra SD Laserdisc set on July 4th, 2023. The last time The Abyss was seen on physical media was over twenty years ago on DVD.
After an extensive scanning, restoration, and color-grading process, The Abyss is finally ready to make its glorious return to disc-based media on the biggest and best format available. With the re-release of Avatar and Titanic to theaters and the colossal box-office haul of Avatar: The Way of Water - fans have eagerly anticipated the return of James Cameron’s most complicated and strenuous production.
Instead of more modern formats like Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD, it was decided to resurrect the long-dormant Laserdisc format for the ultimate home video release of this fan-favorite science fiction epic. After surveying several thrift stores and reaching out to A/V enthusiasts, we shockingly discovered that there were more people with Laserdisc players than there were currently utilizing higher resolution formats like Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. More people enjoy the 4:3 Letterboxed visual experience on their 4K televisions - and this set is designed for them.
To those who may be disappointed by this news, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray editions will be available someday. The new masters are ready and have been approved, discs have been replicated, packaged, boxed up, paletted, and are ready to ship to retailers. We just don’t intend to release them at this time. To bring The Abyss: Special Edition back to physical media, we really wanted to make a splash by offering a unique viewing opportunity that only a select few will actually be able to enjoy.
The Laserdiscs will be housed in a glorious box set. Spread between seven beautiful gatefold sleeves featuring original artwork, newly commissioned artwork, and stills from the film. Also included will be reproduction posters, reproduction lobby cards, and a copy of the film’s third draft screenplay.
Transfer: NEW 4K Restoration and Dolby Vision HDR grading presented in 420i SDR NTSC For maximum picture quality Each disc side offers approximately 10 minutes of the film.
Aspect Ratio: 4:3 Widescreen Letterbox replicating the 2.35:1 theatrical experience
Audio Format: NEW Dolby Atmos audio mix presented in AC3 Dolby Digital Stereo
Bonus Features: Four Discs of New and Archival Bonus Features Including:
NEW Audio Commentary featuring James Cameron NEW Audio Commentary featuring hypnotized members of the cast to minimize traumatic memories of the production. NEW 2023 Feature Length Retrospective Documentary “Diving into The Abyss” NEW 2023 Featurette Return to Deep Core NEW Recently Discovered Deleted Scenes Archival bonus features include Text Commentary Storyboard comparison Behind-the-scenes footage Special Effects Reel And Much More
Basics:
Aspect Ratio: 4:3 2.35:1 Widescreen Letterbox
Audio: English AC3 Dolby Digital Stereo
Subtitles: English
SRP: $229.99
Happy April Fools Everyone - we hope you had a good laugh with this as we endure the ongoing frustrations of not having a genuine quality release of The Abyss or True Lies for almost two decades now. We've been hearing for ages now that these films are coming, but it's starting to become the "James Cameron Who Cried Restoration" these days. Maybe this will be like last year with our fake Criterion Collection announcement of Roadhouse in 4K and we'll actually get these great flicks on Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray? |
