That looks perfect for a few low power Japanese devices in the UK:

If you intend to get more Japanese devices, you might want a slightly bigger one with a multi-socket strip.

Hello everyone,
Our friend accuozo was kind enough to submit a lot of scanned versions of The Videophile (here's a quick tribute here ).
http://magazines.lddb.com/The.Videophile/
Mostly about non-LD matters but the "optical disc" does how up a few times and the discussion about U-matic, VHS and Betamax is already entertaining to read after so many years!

I doubt A Brighter Summer Day will ever get a new release unless Martin Scorsese manages to get back the rights for it. No real loss for me since I've got the Laserdisc but it's a wonderful film that everyone should watch if they ever get the chance. And seeing it on Blu-Ray with a brand new transfer would be irresistible.
Hope you gave up resisting :-)

Also coming to DVD and BR to Europe.

What are the search numbers for the stupid priced horrible films like The Cell or 6th Day??
For CELL or THE CELL :
2008 = 122 2009 = 141 2010 = 142 2011 = 176 2012 = 140 2013 = 132 2014 = 127 2015 = 171 2016 = 259 2017 = 220 2018 = 195
For SIXTH DAY or 6TH DAY :
2008 = 71 2009 = 109 2010 = 124 2011 = 109 2012 = 171 2013 = 181 2014 = 228 2015 = 205 2016 = 179 2017 = 174 2018 = 165

Hello everyone!
Since it doesn't look like I'm going to find a new job as quickly as expected, it's time to spend some time on LDDb.
Looking at having separate tables for:
Players (based on https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=7016) Remote Controls (based on https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=5991) AC3RF demodulators (based on https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=266) MUSE decoders and down-converters (not so many)
AC3RF are player agnostic but remote controls need to be linked to their original unit and comments could testify which one is compatible with other players.
The next step would be to link each Pioneer spare part to their related players, but that's a HUGE amount of work with a small amount of people knowledgeable enough to contribute significantly!
As a start, what are the standard voltage ranges found on worldwide devices?
I have: 100V (Japan only) 100-110V (Japan/North America) 110V (North America) 100-120V (Japan/North America) 120V (North America) 220~240V (Europe/South East Asia) 100-240V (Worldwide)
Any other?

Any chance we can get a cover based view in our collection list? So instead of viewing the text list of our laserdisc collection, we can just view the covers as a regular webpage.
It's doable now that we have enough pictures (that was not always the case!).
A quick hack to see your collection by batches of 250 (it will only display the Laserdiscs with covers among the 250).
Go to your Collection Click on List all by Title Lists are only showing 25 titles but you can click on the [MAX] in the navigation tabs to increase it to 250 Click on the iCover logo

The THX Broadway intro on YouTube that you linked to is waaaay different than the one on LDs .. THX Broadway intro on LD doesn't say 'the audience is listening' , rather it does say 'Mastered and duplicated for optimal video and audio performance'
My YouTube search was too lazy, links updated!
Also updated the THX Broadway thumb picture.

I would like a way to browse titles just like in the Global shop but have a filter to just see titles available in European shops. Also an option to browse all shops in North America and being able to filter out the US or Canada
Luckily, that was only a few lines of code:
https://www.lddb.com/shops.php?global=ALL => all shops https://www.lddb.com/shops.php?global=EUR => Europe https://www.lddb.com/shops.php?global=NOA => Canada + USA https://www.lddb.com/shops.php?global=USA => USA only https://www.lddb.com/shops.php?global=CAN => Canada only

What I can't figure out is how to determine past sales prices on this site.
That's an easy one, each LD page has the previous stats + graphs available.
Example for a popular title such as Matrix, The (1999) [17665]
Qty Min Avg Max Sealed 5 $123.00 $166.96 $205.00 Mint 42 $8.00 $111.48 $248.23 Used 6 $7.00 $93.83 $155.44
And the graphs are: https://www.lddb.com/past/9271/
I know the static images generated in PHP are not the best, I'm working on integrating with AnyChart .

So what is squeeze LD exactly? That always kinda confused me.
Help section to the rescue :-)
https://www.lddb.com/help_ratio.php#squeeze
The way I understood it is that LD is always unsqueezed horizontally for 16/9 (no 4/3 mode), while anamorphic DVD was unsqueezed vertically for 4/3 and horizontally for 16/9.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anamorphic_widescreen#DVD_Video

Here's the message:
Hello Criterion!
I'm sorry to contact you out of the blue like that but I should have done it a long time ago. :-)
I'm the webmaster of lddb.com (LaserDisc Database) where Criterion original releases are prominently featured:
https://www.lddb.com/
LD Criterion release by:
CC # = https://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=ld&list=crit&sort=ref&max=250 Title = https://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=ld&list=crit&max=250 Spine = https://www.lddb.com/list.php?format=ld&list=crit&sort=spine&max=250
All available covers, in chronological order: https://www.lddb.com/criterion.php
Site's forum section dedicated to Criterion releases: https://forum.lddb.com/viewforum.php?f=13
I know you dropped Laserdiscs decades ago and jumped into DVD, BluRay (no 4K coming?) and soon video streaming.
I have very simple questions/requests for you:
Would you still have people working at Criterion who used to work on the LD packaging/curating that I could interview?
Any left-over material (unused concepts, cancelled releases, etc.) that the fan would love to discover?
Any LD-related archives that would love to get a 2nd youth?
I'm trying to save the very little that remains from the 80's/90's before they completely disappear ^_^;
Thank you for taking the time to read this message!
Regards, Julien |

With the demise of Audio Fidelity in 2018, the source of publishers of new SACDs lost a great activist.
Luckily another UK label is doing well and even releasing some of of Audio Fidelity stereo releases in both stereo and quad.

Got my first 2 LD today and I felt it was a great find considering my musical interests! (The aesthetics of them fit)
Laserdisc is very good for older/obscure/out of fashion music form the 80's/90's.
The 2 Dream Machine LDs from Voyager is an interesting way to start a collection. There are lots of Computer Animation LDs out there, most from Japan!

I've got Carol King Tapestry on a 2.0 MoFi SACD. Is the Sony version different?
This one had quite a few releases:
USA 2.0 (1999) - https://www.discogs.com/Carole-King-Tapestry/release/4848526 UK 5.1 (1999) - https://www.discogs.com/Carole-King-Tapestry/release/9170715 USA 5.1 (1999) - https://www.discogs.com/Carole-King-Tapestry/release/2078492 and https://www.discogs.com/Carole-King-Tapestry/release/12106037 Japan 2.0 (2000) - https://www.discogs.com/Carole-King-Tapestry/release/10349183 MFSL 2.0 (2013) - https://www.discogs.com/Carole-King-Tapestry/release/5375857 Japan 2.0 (2017) - https://www.discogs.com/Carole-King-Tapestry/release/11051557
The 2000 Japan SACD is not on DRDB but the 2017 is here: http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/141772 DR=12 The MFSL is: http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/51551 DR=11
Clearly a different mix.

Let's call them all SFX (Special Effects) and the family will be happy :-)
(off-topic posts cleaned up to bring peace back to Middle Earth)
A bit of trivia for everyone then! (thank you gorkab )
We know Labyrinth (1986) had the animated owl for opening:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbNrkazI-AY
Or that Disney used 3D wire graphics for the vehicles scenes in TRON (1982) and final fight scene in The Great Mouse Detective (1986):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ruRruqKf5M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayTXmzgtaZs
But which 1986 movie had the first scene edited on computer for visual effects (removing ropes frame by frame!)?

Ahhhh thanks :-)
Indeed there is little user interaction for now while I'm making sure the code base is sound before opening users updates and more.
There's just a bit of read-only GUI here: https://www.lddb.com/_test.php
It's a way to check/update parts vs. players like PacParts does:
DVL-90 on PacParts
Pioneer VEB1184 Belt, Load Pioneer VWT1139 Laser Pickup (DVD) Pioneer VWT1141 Laser Pickup (Ld)
Now if you enter DVL-90 as a device on the upper right search box and click on "Check parts", it will show the same + some more:
DVL-90.png
Parts # can be found on the Service Manual ( https://manuals.lddb.com/LD_Players/Pioneer/DVL/DVL-90/DVL-90-EN_service_manual_Scan.pdf ) that is also a part # in itself: RRV1710
If you enter RRV1710 in the upper left search box and click on "Check devices", the DVL-90 as well as DVL-700 shows up.
RRV1710.png
It's quite unstable right now, sometimes the search box will not refresh normally.
Ultimately, any parts confirmed to belong a registered device will has its own part/accessory entry that you can add to collection/wishlist and accept updates, pictures, comments as usual.
