I know this is an old thread but I wanted to post a follow-up. Fixing this was beyond my capabilities and shipping it would not have been cost effective (and probably would have made it worse), so I sold it as a parts machine locally. The guy who bought it was able to get it going, but it took a lot of work. He had to change several caps and do some mechanical work to get the laser back on track. Some of what he did blew some of the on-board fuses, so he had to replace them too. The DVD laser is fried, but he didn't really care. In the end, he got a working 919 for relatively short money and I think he learned a lot fixing it.
