I'm happy to announce that I've begun manufacture of new VEB1237 equivalent grip rings. Search on ebay and you will find them, or find me over at Laserdisc Forever on facebook.

Hi everybody, I also posted in a previous thread, but for those not following that thread, I'm happy to announce that I've begun manufacturing an equivalent replacement for the VEB1237 grip ring. Search for it on ebay and you'll find it, of find me over at Laserdisc Forever on facebook.

I'm using custom press dies that I fabricated myself. I'm working on DEB1169 and VEB1008 now. I realize pacparts still has DEB1169, but who knows for how much longer, and who knows how long the rubber on the old stock parts will stay grippy.

FYI I've begun manufacturing these. They aren't on eBay yet but should be in a week or 2. If you search VNL-1684 it should come up.

Also, just to chime in regarding the paint or spray solution. While I can see that it would be tempting to run to your hardware store and get an off the shelf product that will quickly restore you LD player to working order, I would caution doing this for a couple of reasons:

1) Spraying anything inside the player is a bad, bad idea. Gears? Rails? Anything that's meant to slide will have a harder time doing so with even the faintest film of an aerosolized product.
2) If you paint anything onto the spindle, unless it's a perfectly even application, it could introduce wobble to the disc. Not only could that impact playback, but it could cause premature wear to the bronze bushing in the spindle motor.

This is the whole reason I started making replacements. I figured there had to be a better solution.

FYI, I now make and sell replacements for the pinion gear that commonly break in these. Search eBay for VNL028 which is the part number.

I’m pleased to announce at long last the release of the LaserParts VNL-1779 M-Holder replacement!

I’ve completely CAD-modeled the part myself as opposed to using laser scanning and worked with a talented team of beta testers across the globe to perfect the part over the course of several revisions. I've doubled down on manufacturing best practices and quality control to ensure that the part is as close to a professionally manufactured replacement as possible.

I’m doing a soft launch to gather feedback from the wider laserdisc world. The first 20 units are available for $20 a piece plus shipping. After the first 20 units, they will be available for the full price of $40 plus shipping.

Replacing the this part is not strictly what I’d call an easy repair. If you’re handy with electronics, it’s doable, but I’d caution folks to find someone who’s well versed in electronics repair if you’ve got any doubts. I’ve taken the time to make a comprehensive replacement video to help minimize the odds of breaking the player while attempting the repair:

Special shout outs to James Russell, Mike Porcelli, Tyler Campbell, Kurtis Bahr, Kris Sondervorst, and Christian Forstreuter for beta testing for me. I couldn’t have gotten to this point without you.

Thanks to Andrew Joyce for doing the camerawork on the how-to video.

Here’s the link to Sam Hatch's Laserdisc Wolfpack vlog episode where I talk about the release:

I've got mine available for sale now! DM me here, or find me on Laserdisc Forever on FB. Soft launch going on now with reduced price for first 20 units. Afterwards, it will be going on eBay.
I CAD-modeled it from scratch and worked with a handful of beta testers across the globe (I'm in the US) over several revisions to perfect the dimensions and find an ideal blend of industrial resins for durability.

I also made this handy instructional video:

FYI I'm currently beta testing spindle bushing replacements. This solves the screech of death. There are a few variations, but the one I'm working on now works for a handful of spindles. Replacement brushes are in the works as well but farther off.

I'm the one doing the replacement gear. Made a couple of revisions to ensure a proper fit on the shaft. Ready to rock!

Late chime in here, but figured I'd add for others who might reference this thread. The stock belts Pioneer used for VEB-1184 were a touch too big and slipped too early. There are a plethora of posts talking about how the SCQ3.6 is the appropriate replacement. So, if a replacement belt seems a touch smaller than the original, chances are the original was the stock Pioneer belt and the new one will seem smaller by comparison, but it's on purpose ;)

Hi all, I've been slowly expanding my catalog of laserdisc player reproduction parts. I've created a website to house my eBay links. I've chimed in on various threads where pertinent, but figured it would be worth making a separate thread in case anyone was curious about replacement parts in general. 2 main highlights are replacement m-holders and grip rings of my own design and manufacture. I've also recreated a number of gears and odds and ends that are common breakage points in Pioneer players. Feel free to reach out to me here on the forums or contact me via the email listed on the site:

Hi all, just wanted to share that I'm working on reproducing the VXA2225 turntable. The VNL1684 PRC hub is already available at my site http://www.laserparts.net or by searching for the part number on eBay.
