Player: Pioneer CLD-53

Capture Device: Hauppauge PVR Composite for both the video and audio

Movie: Dark Tide (1993) (Uncut) [LDCVM5850]

Info: I don't notice much different about the image quality. I think I messed with the color settings on Hauppauge on my original capture with the LX-900 1995 revision. The biggest difference I notice is that less of the screen is cut off since LX-900 has that weird defect. Overall I think Pioneer CLD-53 is producing a pretty good image. With that said I still haven't tested this player out on a bigger 65 inch 4k tv. However based off these screens I think the quality is not much different than the so called high end LX-900 player. Obviously Panasonic benefits from still frame and other issues that can benefit on both CLV and CAV. However if people are just watching the movie and aren't concerned with freeze framing then I think there's nothing wrong with this player and you get the full picture. I did have to repair the player because it had problems opening up the drawer and auto reversing or reading on side B. Don't know if that could be a problem down the future with this player because I don't know enough about the Pioneer CLD-53 and possible issues with it. The main benefit of my LX-900 is that it just works and I haven't had any issues with it but with that said I'm not too sure the previous owner or owners of my LX-900 used it often and maybe that's why it's LIKE NEW condition cosmetically and internally.

How is that burned to the seller ? If I sell a player I always sell it on local classifieds and with mentioning that it's pick-up only. Gets sold every time.

I think he's talking about how it's a burden to ebay sellers. That if something goes wrong in shipping and the player is either broken or not functioning properly that it hurts them in the long run because ebay will side with the buyers. Which is correct thing to do because buyers are not paying hundreds of dollars for broken equipment that was listed as working.

I think I'd take the 5 percent cut off on the right side of screen on the LX-900 over the hideous CLV smearing the CLD-99 does. I have a bunch of horror movies I've been capturing lately and the CLV smear is really apparent on the CLD-99. I will take screen shots of it to show you what I mean. Even when I turn the brightness down to make the blacks stand out a little better there's still CLV smear noticeable on the Moon in Silver Bullet and other horror movies that show space off. Now I haven't tested the CLD-99 on a crt tv so I don't know if the smear is less noticeable on that but on a 4k 32 inch monitor it's really noticeable and on my 43 inch sharp tv I was noticing the smear even on white backgrounds when I was watching Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. This player was one of Pioneer's most expensive players released in the US market with a retail price of $2,500 and it has some of the worst CLV smear. I think the CLV smear is even less on my CLD-3080 and I forget what the CLV-smear looks like on the CLD-53 if there is any. Now I don't know if the smear is more noticeable on the CLD-99 because it might be producing slightly better definition to show off details but I do know it's giving my brain a headache seeing it. Now I don't know if when I stream movies to people if it makes more sense to use my LX-900 captures or my CLD-99. I'm almost thinking it makes more sense to use the LX-900 captures.

While I know you have a bunch of discs and I'm sure you have seen rot, from those pics I don't see anything that sticks out.
Also you need to remember these films, while shot and put onto home video only a few years later they do sometimes have
dirt on the original source and were made fast with cheap film stock so you may see issues too.

If it's not rot it's still very unattractive looking and is very noticeable at times. I label things that can bother people's eyes as rot and my vision isn't even good. I wear glasses and I feel like my prescription is never 100 percent correct.

This website gets free advertisement on reddit often. I've seen myself and others reference lddb on reddit. I believe there's a lot of people who don't register and are guests.

Someone just Won a cld-703 cheap on ebay for 101 bucks with free shipping plus tax. Probably around $110. I'm pretty shocked one sold that cheap. Seller claims it works too. If I wasn't broke af I may have put a bid on it. I ended up telling someone else on reddit that he or she should get it since it's very similar to my cld-99. I believe the cld-99 is based on the cld-703 and cld-704. It's only lacking AC3 which most people won't use and many laserdiscs don't have AC3. Oh yeah, and not the special unique s-video the cld-99 has but other than that it's composite is probably very similar and maybe my cld-99 cleans up noise a little better but I don't even know how noticeable that would be. I own way too many players at 4 anyways.

I ended up selling off another LX-h670 because I just frankly have too many ld players and many of them don't even get used. Only my cld-99 has seen love lately. The other 3 are collecting dust. Also, anyone that buys a Pioneer Laserdisc Player has to keep in mind that they either have to clean the belt or replace it if the door is taking long to open or if it's not automatically flipping to side b with laser. I think every Pioneer player I've bought has had issues such as that even when the sellers claim working fine. I don't know if something gets shaken during shipping or what. Also, the LX-h670 is one of my least favorite ld players. Notice it would have issues reading slightly warped discs and the colors were not as nice as my lx-900. You can see screen caps of Lion King comparison to LX-900 and Lx-H670. https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?t=9524 The only thing the LX-h670 did better than the better LX-900 is it has the entire picture because of the defect on the lx-900 that cuts off part of the right side of the screen. So I've owned a total of 3 Panasonic Players and 3 Pioneer Players. The Panasonic Players didn't need their belts clean or replaced but the Pioneer Players did. I don't know if that's coincidence or not.

I've ordered a total of 6 laserdisc players from Ebay and they all came in the Mail perfectly fine. So I respectfully disagree. If people are packaging them properly there should no issues.

What is the difference between CLD-99 and CLD-d704? Is the CLD-99 just a D704 with an upgraded 3d comb filter for s-video and a face lift with a different face plate?
