I feel like my Elgato video capture standard non-hd compresses my laserdisc rips and it doesn't look as nice as it does on my big 65 inch tv. I am also ripping through composite cables. I believe if I had an s-video cable which I'm waiting for in the mail it would produce better results when ripping. Yes I know composite is better for laserdisc but when ripping I'd imagine the s-video cable might be a benefit quality wise. Anyways here are some screenshots from VLC Media player of some movies I've ripped. Also, I've only recently got into collecting and watching laserdisc movies. Different movies have different quality. Some better than others. I really liked how Cliffhanger looked the version of Cliff Hanger with 3 discs I think it was. I believe it uses two discs for the movie and the 3rd disc for extras. Another movie that looks great on my 65 inch tv is Kindred 1987. It's not widescreen but I've notice some of the nicer looking laserdiscs can be 4:3 format. Heck I am really impressed by how Masters of the Universe looks on my 65 inch tv. Again I think Elgato is compressing the video quality too much. I wish standard Elgato would at least rip these for 3 megs or higher. I feel like 2200-2400 megs is too small that and maybe I really should be ripping with an s-video cable. I rip these movies to stream with a friend of mine from another Country. I feel like she's not getting the best visual impression of the movie because Elgato is probably compressing it too much.

I had $8.55 left on my gift card and ended up buying National Geographic laserdiscs for $8.53 after tax. Didn't know what else to spend the $$$ on. I almost picked up Jurassic Park but that seems to be so common and so cheap that if i really want to get that I can get that any time. I mostly picked these up for my Dad because I know he likes to watch this stuff and I also enjoyed watching these at my school. I think I may have even seen the Lion one before at my school but it probably would have been the vhs of it. I'm pretty sure my school didn't have a laserdisc player. I noticed the Lion one is selling for 20 bucks alone on Ebay so I think I got a decent deal on that. I also think I got a deal on Blade, Small Soldiers and Ernest scared stupid. I paid $27.67 for Ernest scared stupid which I guess isn't much of a deal because I've probably seen it selling in the past for around 30 bucks on ebay but I don't think it's a bad price for an Ernest holiday movie. If I remember correctly I paid probably around 30 bucks for Ernest Saves Christmas laserdisc in the past. I won Small Soldiers auction at $61.11 but after tax and shipping that one came to $70.83 which probably isn't that bad of a price for that movie since I seen one copy being sold of the ntsc version of Small Soldiers on lddb in the past for around I believe 75 or 80 bucks. This is also one of the rarer laserdiscs I've seen pop up online. I rarely see Small Soldiers NTSC laserdisc pop up online. I almost pulled the trigger and got it on here in the past but I missed the opportunity to get it and was lucky to find it on ebay since I believe this to be a rarer or harder to find laserdisc. And the final laserdisc I bought which was actually the first auction I won about a week or so ago was Blade and I won Blade for a great price. I paid $44.06 after taxes. I know Blade sells between $80-$100 on ebay so I think I got a pretty nice deal on Blade. Also I've seen National Geographic laserdiscs in the past being sold for like 25 bucks for a 5 set that I missed which I guess would have been a pretty sweet deal. However I wasn't interested in it at that time period and passed on it.

Capture Device: El-gato non-hd and I purposely captured with this software over Hauppauge PVR. A user one here said that he or she thought the laserdisc captures look better with Elgato non-hd over Hauppauge PVR. I think they might be right but Hauppauge PVR does offer a higher bitrate. Don't know which software I should be capturing my laserdiscs with to be honest. These are the two cheaper options. I'm sure there might be something better but at what cost?

I swear most of the laserdisc sellers on ebay don't even have a laserdisc player to test out the laserdiscs to make sure it doesn't have any issues. I'm worried about rot and yes I now that's uncommon but it's not only rot I'm worried about. In the past I bought a copy of Puppet Master which only had one side of the film printed on it. I think it's the last half of the movie. It's actually right before all the action happens I think. I don't even know how that happens with a laserdisc. Like how does only one side of the movie get printed on? Either way the seller let me keep that but I haven't even watched it much. Also, I notice that some Brand New laserdiscs will sell more than USED ones. However I personally prefer USED over NEW because that way if the seller does have a player I can ask them if there's any issues. I would say overall most sellers do not have a player. I think I would say about 7/10 Ebay sellers don't have an ld player. Whether they ended up selling the player or they never had one to begin with because they picked the laserdiscs up at a local thrift shop to resell for profit. I never see any laserdiscs at my local thrift shops in South Jersey. I don't think that's too shocking because I bet most people from this area do not have laserdisc players. The only other person I know that has a laserdisc player is my Cousin. I think he knows I have a laserdisc player but he may have forgotten. I probably have more laserdiscs than him. I would let him borrow my laserdiscs if he wanted to watch any of the movies I have. I'm pretty sure he'd definitely want to watch Blade. I remember when I was younger and living at my grandma's house temporarily that he showed off Blade on DVD. I believe at that time period Blade DVD was considered the high standard for DVDs. I think we watched it on a small computer screen though so obviously it would look great on a fat crt monitor. I don't know how well that's aged. The laserdisc is alright looking. I've collected some fairly expensive laserdiscs. Not sure my Cousin has anything on my level of prices I've paid. I feel like he buys the cheaper common laserrdiscs such as Die Hard. I see a zillion Die Hard laserdiscs on ebay and they're always pretty cheap.

It's an entertaining film and it is similar to Return of the living dead. Well I enjoy Night of the Creeps. I think it's a nice zombie film from the 80s. It has that nice Halloween 3 feel to it at times too because Tom Atkins is in this movie and Tom Atkins is a great 80s horror actor. Would love to see Tom Atkins do a Halloween 3 sequel. Don't know if it will ever get made because there was talks of it a decade ago and he seemed like he was all in but don't know how he feels about a possible sequel to Halloween 3 now. People change their minds.

Elite Entertainment should know how many Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and Nightmare on Elm Street 3 laserdiscs they produced. I don't know if they'll tell anyone. If I had to guess it was probably not many. It was only for about 3-4 months I think. I know with the video game Illbleed for the Sega Dreamcast that it's said that game only had 50,000 NTSC copies made of it which is considered very low for a video game. Most of the NTSC copies of illbleed are either badly scratched up aka unplayable or thrown out in the trash. People especially kids do not take care of game discs very well. I'm guilty of that when I was a kid. I also don't know where I heard that there was only 50,000 illbleed NTSC copies produced. That could be inaccurate information.

Player: Panasonic LX-900 revision 1995

Capture Device: Hauppauge PVR composite

Movie: Austin Powers International Man of Mystery: Special Edition (1997) [ID3965LI]

Info: Might not show on the screenshots I took but this laserdisc was severely warped but I am too lazy to send back to seller and it was only 15 dollars anyways. It might fix up when I have the laserdisc in-between other laserdiscs. I could tell it was warped because I seen squiggly lines at times but I believe my LX-900 was trying it's hardest to autocorrect it or whatever it does. Movie plays fine but my eyes are picky because i know what to look for when there's an issue with discs. This format has it's flaw and slightly warped discs is one of those issues.

The vibrant colors will fool you. Great Colors on Austin Powers but I do think Wild Wild West wins overall. It's really not fair to judge just on screen captures and recordings from an old iphone 6. I would say this about these two releases. I think the sharper colors and sharper picture are on Wild Wild West even if you can't tell that from the pictures I posted. There is absolutely no reason for me to BS. Then again I guess all our eyes work differently. I do wear prescription glasses. The colors used in a movie based on the 60s with it's beautifully vibrant colors definitely pops out on screen on the laserdisc version of Austin Powers. There's just a lack of detail at times or kind not a crisp look image at times when in motion and watching it in person. I feel like Austin Powers ld benefits heavily from the vibrant colors that when I take a still shot it fools people.

No way am I saying Austin Powers is a bad release. It is not and if I hadn't had Wild Wild West in my collection then I'd probably give the nod to Austin Powers. However I feel like the really vibrant colors of the Austin Powers is kind of fooling the eyes a bit especially on captures and recordings. If I had to rate the releases I'd give Wild Wild West a 10/10 which isn't shocking since it's one of the two last releases from Warner Brothers and Austin Powers about a 9/10. It's close but I personally believe Wild Wild West is just a notch above the Austin Powers release. Both film releases could probably fool people into thinking it's a dvd. Warner Brothers and Image did a terrific job on each release. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you think Austin Powers is the better release so be it. Watching in person I would disagree.

It's here thank god. I bitched at usps earlier saying they need to go track it down and get it from the person they accidentally delivered it to. They obviously listened because it showed up.

Player: Panasonic LX-900 revision 1995

Capture Device: Hauppauge PVR (Yes I'm still using it even though most including myself believes Elgate Non-HD captures better colors. I just like the higher bitrate since I stream these for a friend and Elgato only has 2500 which shockingly enough is not good enough for laserdisc. I definitely notice a quality difference. Yes I wish I had a better capture program but it is what it is. I don't think Hauppauge PVR is as awful as some of you say it is but I do think the colors aren't as nice and it shows more on certain movies for some odd reason. I also can't think of many devices that would be better that connect with composite. I notice some of these devices being sold only do hdmi and it seems like too much effort to do hdmi to composite with adapters.

Movie: Nightmare on Elm Street 6, A: Freddy's Dead - The Final Nightmare (1991) [ID2169LI]

Info: Get your 3d glasses since I took screenshots of some of the 3d segments of this laserdisc. Also these are jpgs not png. Should load quicker for slower connections and I don't know if there's a huge quality difference between jpg and png. Also, some of you may have already known this if you read the last laserdisc topic at all but getting a good copy of this movie was a pain in the a** for me. The first Freddy's Dead copy I got had laserdisc rot and the seller let me keep the disc and the glasses which was nice of him/her and then I ordered a second copy of it from Germany and it's a good copy of it with little to no artifacts. I don't believe the second copy I got which is from the screens below has any rot or if it does it's so minor not noticeable. Just warning others since this laserdisc might be a rotter depending where it was manufactured or how poorly someone may have taken care of it.

Paid 18 dollars more on this auction I sniped when about 5 days later another auction sold for about 40 bucks plus tax. So the other buyer saved about 16 bucks. I thought the 3 other people were going to fight it out for that one so that's why I decided to go with the one that ended up costing more. Also the seller listed tested so if there's any issues it will be easy to send right back to the seller.

I bought this off ebay for cheap because the cover was water damage and the seller said he/she tested the disc and that it works great. The seller also told me he or she has an account here. They gave me a name to the account on here but I do not know if they want that to be public knowledge so I will not give that name out. If they want to be known maybe he or she will reply to the topic. The Pit and the Pendulum copies on ebay and on lddb sell for over 25 dollars. If bought here I'd have to include shipping I think or is shipping included in the final price? I forget because haven't bought on lddb in awhile. This copy was being sold by the seller for $6.99 but had about 4 dollars in shipping and tax so it came to about $12.25. So paid less than half it would cost if bought else where. Always searching for deals on lds. Full moon typically has great looking laserdiscs video quality wise so I like getting their stuff though sometimes their movies aren't all that good. I guess they are campy or cheesy which ever word best describes it.

Just got done watching The Manitou with Tony Curtis aka Jamie Lee Curtis's estranged father and I don't know how to feel about this movie. It was okay but not great. I feel like it could have been better. It was definitely a strange movie. I like the actor that played the Native American in the movie but I don't know if he was actually Native American in real life. He looked Native American to me but I know Hollywood sometimes dresses up white people or other ethnicities to look Native American. I don't really think that's an issue unless Native Americans are offended by that. I personally don't care if Hollywood cast someone to play a different race as long as they don't totally disrespect Native American culture. With that said the whole Native American Medicine man thing I know nothing about if any of this has truth to it. I watched this movie with my Dad and when the actor was putting magical circle around the bed to keep the bad Native American Medicine Man in it I have no idea if Native Americans believe or believed in this stuff at one time. It's always stuff in tv shows and movies but my Dad said that it's accurate but who knows. Hollywood can just put stuff in their movies and say this is how Native American culture was at one time.

This has happened to me once on here. Seller responded back one time and then never let me purchase Freddy's Dead from him. Seller either died or was a rude person that got triggered by something I may have said. I think I may have slipped up and said something about how I liked his prices so maybe he decided to sell else where for more money. Who knows but you might be running into the same situation I did. Seller might not be happy with the price they have listed or they could have possibly died if they haven't had activity on their account for awhile. Did you see the last feedback they received? Seller could also be on a Trip right now and might not have noticed that someone ordered.

Warning In the Cold Night 1990 is basically a softcore p0rn0 and is rated NC-17. There's a bunch of Nude scenes so I wouldn't suggest it for families.

https://i.imgur.com/NOzds39.png

In the Cold of the Night 1990 has a laserdisc appearance and it makes absolutely no sense when they show it. I don't want to spoil the movie but I just have to say the laserdisc is quite out of place in this movie. I'm also wondering how many people watched this movie back in 1990 and thought what the f is this. I mean did people actually know what laserdisc players were back then? When I was growing up in the 90s I didn't hear anyone talk about laserdiscs. My father told me he had one single customer with a laserdisc player and it was some italian guy. My father is a carpenter.

Is slipping into darkness worth something now??
Hate to mention my dealings with that disc/title.

Selling for $45.15 on ebay plus taxes. 39.99 plus 5.16 in shipping. I actually paid next to nothing for Slipping into darkness. I paid $11.31 but won the auction at 5.62. Seller had a buy it now for $5.99 but I and one other person sniped the auction with about 3 seconds to go and they lost the item to me. Was it one of you guys or gals that lost it to me? Lately I've been seeing shipping costs on laserdiscs because I guess people don't want to add free shipping to incorporate the price into it which might be a smarter move because people see the auction as low and ignore the shipping cost but overall I'd say for $11.31 I didn't do half bad. That's considered a cheaper laserdisc in my collection. 11 bucks to me is nothing.

I knew I shouldn't have made that post. I jinxed myself. I got used to be paid early and of course I wasn't. I guess I can say good bye to silent hill. Good thing that game is always popping up because it's super common but it's also super expensive and I had won that for a pretty good price. Oh well, I'm going to have to contact both sellers today and let them know it's probably going to be tomorrow. Money isn't the problem. The problem is when I'm going to be paid. That's the problem. I was so used to be paid on Saturday or Sundays and now it's not like that anymore. Well it is what it is. I can't use my dad's cc it's all maxed out thanks to me buying thousands of dollars worth of s**t. This is what happens when I start making money. I spend it like crazy.

After this week of making money I was thinking of possibly saving up the rest of the weeks to buy my Dad a nice new 77 or 83 inch oled tv. Depending on how many more weeks I get to work at this job. It depends how much more I can do and my weeks sometimes make me 360 to 480 a week. Was thinking of saving up and buying him a 2k, 3k, or 4k tv. Probably leaning towards the 77 inch oled because of pricing and because I have no idea how long this job will last and how much I'll be paid after this week since I might get less and less days. This week I'm probably only getting $360 since last week they gave me $480 for an extra day I didn't do because someone else did the day. Now that we are talking tvs does anyone know how big of an upgrade a 2022 oled tv is over our current TCL 65 inch 4k tv? I would think pretty big because the blacks are suppose to look better right? I'd like for us to get a tv that not only looks good but doesn't reflect too much. The current tv reflects the lights and i have to tell him to shut the light off often.

With the loss of my Dad's son I think it's the least I could do especially since I blame myself for my brothers death. I knew he was killing himself but I ignored it because I held onto a grudge over the idiot cops in my town arresting me when I called them for help back in May of 2020. This haunts me every day thinking about my brother's death and 100 percent knowing I could have saved him but I was having a mental breakdown and I just wish he would be gone. I couldn't stand him any longer. He was wandering around the house high all the time and it's one of the reasons didn't want him living with us any longer and the idiot cops in my town made things worse when I called them for help and reported he was on drugs. They didn't care he was on drugs and behaving erratically.

Finally paid everything off. Bride of Chucky guy from Texas was a real nice guy/person whatever their gender is and allowed me 6 days on ebay to pay off!!! Never ran into such a nice seller on ebay. I bought 3 brand new Charlie Brown movies. I wanted the Christmas special but I did not see that one online and this is probably a horrible month to be hunting for that one since everyone else is probably hunting for it. Anyways I hope I don't deal with too much warpness issues with these sealed copies and i don't think these paramount laserdiscs of Charlie Brown were known as rotters so I'm pretty sure It'll be fine. Also last minute purchase 2 days ago on an auction was Monster Squad because it was a cheaper price than it normally sells for. This laserdisc usually sells in the hundreds of dollars range but I only paid in the 80 range after I sniped the auction. I was debating whether to get it when I seen the clock counting down. Don't think it will ever show up for much cheaper than what I paid. I also heard the 4:3 copy destroys the Japanese Widescreen release in picture quality. I read that online when Is searched on google or bing.

Also a auction I lost which I knew I was going to lose because the price was too insane for me was Deep Blue Sea laserdisc. It went up to 300 dollars and a Sealed copy also sold for about 430-440 range. I think people are putting crazy prices on this ld and I recently with-in the past month or so seen someone on reddit claim they only paid a 100 bucks for it. That sounds more reasonable in my opinion. I do not know where these people with a s**t ton of money to burn come from. 300 or 400 bucks for a laserdisc is crazy to me. You can literally buy a good laserdisc player even in 2022 for that price range!!! I don't think any disc in my collection is worth close to that! I don't even think Deep Blue Sea should be worth close to that! Yes it's a late release but so are many other movies that I have in my collection that didn't cost any where close to 300-400 range. I didn't pay any where close to that for The Mummy even though I wasn't happy what I ultimately ended up paying for that. I also have stuff like Small Soldiers, Antz, and other laserdiscs that I paid under 100 bucks for. I probably paid around 70-80 for small soldiers in the past and antz may have been a similar price. I couldn't see myself paying 300-400 dollars for either of those releases!!! Also Wild Wild West always seems to sell for under 100 bucks on ebay in recent times and that's probably what I'd consider the best looking Wide-Screen release but that's subjective obviously. I'll capture bride of chucky when it comes so I can let you guys know what that widescreen release looks like. I doubt anything beats Wild Wild West even though some of you claim Austin Powers which I also own beats it color wise.

This Pioneer Laserdisc player is whisper quiet during operation. I cannot hear it reading the disc at all when the movie is playing. That's funny because my Panasonic Laserdisc players are loud and make all types of noises. Is that normal that the Panasonic players I own are loud? Also I don't know if it's because this is a Pioneer Player or if it's because this is a softer picture compared to Panny's laserdisc player but there's a noticeable difference in video. I'm not saying it's worse or better at this current time but it's not ugly or anything. I actually like how it looks. Currently capturing Tourist Trap which is probably not the best laserdisc to capture to compare quality between the players since I don't believe I captured this on a Panny yet. It just happened to be a movie I had laying out that needed to be backed up. I wanted to capture something I've already captured before. Actually I might have Ernest Saves Christmas laying around some where and I have captured that both on the LX-H670 and LX-900. I believe I have captures of both of them posted on lddb if memory serves me correctly. Right now I don't feel like opening my box up to find other stuff such as Dark Tide. I own way too many laserdiscs and it's not easy to find movies with how I have it setup right now.
