Gone With The Wind may not be an appropriate film in 2020,

f**k that. Not appropriate to social justice warriors on twitter? The rest of us can understand it's a f***ing movie made for whatever reason it was made. GWTW is completely appropriate because it's a f***ing MOVIE.

Movies can actually say whatever they want in the "free" Western world. Did GWTW accurately portray subserviance of blacks in America in that period? Probably. So why do you want to erase it? It's pretty damn accurate. Whether the director glorified it or not is up to the director. It's f***ing ART. Art should never be censored. Neither should actual history and people should learn to differentiate between the two for the sake of humanity.

Us sane people have to keep speaking up or you let the twitterati change history and artistic freedom/new thinking or ideas. They push dangerous ideas underground where they get REALLY dangerous because intelligent people have forgottten how to think for themselves and just look to their SJW/Twitter masters for what is right and wrong.

Welcome :)

It is still possible to get into LD on the cheap, I only got my first player recently pretty much for the same reason you're looking at it now (I've become more fond of old tech as I get older). Haven't collected many LD releases but I'm not prepared to spend loads of money, I basically have what I wanted to get initially bar a really nice Star Wars OT box set and possibly a few other odd things.

I'm about the same age as you and yeah, LD wasn't for average income people over here. It was all VHS with a few Beta players scattered around.

Let's be totally fair here, the NRA of the time when Heston delivered his "cold dead hands" speech is quite different from the NRA of today.

It's still an organisation for responsible gun owners. Last I checked NRA members stopped a heck of a lot more murders than they committed (almost zero).

It's those untrained, unlicensed people who go on killing sprees or commit gang/cop murders.

Concealed carry is a right I am jealous of in my nanny state. All you have to do in a dark carpark while approaching your car is say to the guy shadowing you "I'm carrying" and the situation is difused. You don't even have to draw. Guy goes away. WIN WIN. In Australia I have to use my bare hands to beat down the guy and then I'll probably be accused of assault, or if he gets the upper hand I'll just be dead. LOSE LOSE

You can plug an LD player straight into a TV, yes. That’s what most people did. This is a format from the late 1970s. It doesn’t required 21st century decoding tech.

DTS are the exception to this, but DTS LDs are pretty hard to get by accident.

That's just the thing I mean. If I bought a DTS disc, it wouldn't sound at all on such a basic setup?
You can still watch the analog track on DTS titles.

I think there's like maybe two or three titles that only offer the soundtrack proper in DTS. I know Blade's analog channels are a commentary and isolated score so it's impossible to watch without DTS equipment.

You may get audio but not the DTS soundtrack, same with AC-3.

I guess if you had a decoder between the TV and LD player you could technically get the DTS or AC3 but it would be down converting it to 2 channel so
its a moot point to even bother.

You would most likely be hearing the L/R stereo audio not anything enhanced.

But in all reality why would you bother to collect LDs to get blockbuster titles that you can get on bluray for 5 bucks now.

As Takeshi666 said. Some DTS titles have the movie soundtrack on the analog tracks. Check the database. You would need to change the audio output settings on your player to analog with the remote to take advantage of it. If you cant playback/decode DTS then do as Zeta says and buy the non DTS version.

New arrival from Japan. Because of the flu it was a very slow year when it comes to LD collecting and packages from Japan also take much longer to arrive.

Well most of them do, but yes, just check the database. Usually the analog track is probably just a standard dolby surround one. Some might have a commentary on one of the analog tracks so you're stuck watching the movie in mono.
