Hello!

A whim craving to watch SPT Layzner which drove me to eBay where one of the few offerings were two LD Memorial boxes.
This was the push I needed to go ahead and order a LD player, a RCA to HDMI adapter and 2x 150USD LD boxes that will arrive at some point, COVID-19 willing.

That was yesterday and here I am today!

Though my collection is starting from scratch I have had some happy LD-experiences in the past.

A friend of mine had an LD-player back in the late 90s
.
Later in 2010 while I was in Japan for a semester abroad me and my dorm-mates got a nice collection going purchased from our local Hard-Off.
However while our intention was that it be left for coming generations, I would later learn that everything got carried back to Hard-Off.
Hopefully they inspired someone else later.

I already have a couple of purchases going with some good people in the shops but am also looking forward to just hanging around, as it's fun to have a community that is not rooted in contemporary culture.

Thank you so much for keeping the flame of media alive and specifically thanks the many excellent resources on this site!

Yours
Dag

I just found a YouTube playlist with all the episodes of Jungle King Ta-chan/ジャングルの王者ターちゃん (1993).

It's a Shonen Jump show sprinkled with excessive puns, bawdy asides and the most inspired protagonist voice casting since Goku in Dragon Ball.

The show never got a release outside of rental dvd in Japan, so give it a go on YouTube if you don't mind stuff getting stupid. (search for the Japanese title; at least the first couple of episodes have burned in fansub/bootleg subtitles)

7A doesn't seem like the most common ampage for such things, but maybe 10A
can work?
This one (aliexpress.com) , with the catchy product name " 3V 4.5V 5V 6V 7.5V 8V 9V 10V 12V 10A AC DC Adaptor Adjustable Power Adapter Universal Power Supply 3-12V 10A 9-24V 5A 34pcs Jack ", has a variety of tips though, and the 10A version does 3-12V.

Not qualified to say whether those excess 3A will damage your VP50 though.

The sellers have this to say on the subject:
Note:

Power regardless of brand are universal. Please check the following 3 points:
1. Plug type.
2. voltage is same.
3. current is greater than or equal to the power of your original
As long as the conditions can be met in general, we do not know you what kind of equipment for power supply, so please
check above 3 elements.

Just got back from a local seller here in Oslo, Norway.
The plan was to get My Cousin Vinny and maybe one or two expendable titles to use for testing players without risking any prized posessions.

Result was as follows:

Dumbo (1941) [5485 CS]
Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The (1977) [7074 AS]
Super, The (1991) [1872-80]
Blade Runner: Director's Cut (1992) [12682]
My Cousin Vinny (1992) [1876-80]
Patriot Games (1992) [LV 32530-WS]
Babylon 5 #1.6: Deathwalker/Believers (1993) [14112]
Shadowlands (1993) [LD 90968-2WS]
Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) [800631769-1]
Blade (1998) [ID4252LI]

Of course, because I am a dunce that went straight to eBay for a player in stead of checking for local options, my player is still in the hands of eBay global shipping (currently resting in Erlanger, Kentucky), so for now they're just for show.

My entry point was Gundam Seed, which was the most recent series at the time, and after finishing it and finding out about UC and the other AUs I felt so intimidated by the existence of all the UC material that I watched more or less all of the AUs to scratch my Gundam itch before finally watching UC and loving it.

Unicorn and NT were fine but First Gundam, Zeta and CCA are my personal UC-canon.
The gaiden non-newtype stuff has some good entertainment value as well but all the crazy Gundam-prototypes that show up between First and Zeta sort of diminishes the clean lineage between the original Gundam and the mk2.

I guess I am just a simple guy who likes simple narratives.

Had another Laserdisctastic start to my weekend!

Firstly: My copy of SF Shinseiki Lensman (1984) [G78F0020] arrived safely, thanks to lddb-user braintrash.

braintrash did a good job on the packaging, so this purchase was a success, not to mention my first fully concluded purchase from the shops.

Next I picked up a Pioneer CLD-950 that does PAL and NTSC, in case I ever stumble across a PAL title.

It plays well as far as my untrained eye can see so I think it was a good deal

The player was bundled with all the seller's discs, so my library of expendable LDs has increased.

A nice little gem amongst the pebbles was a widescreen edition of Star Trek IV that wasn't in the database:

I don't know about the rest but I will give them a spin in due course.

Two of them didn't have proper covers and I will be surprised if New Jersey Drive plays at all, what with the scratches and all.

All in all it was a fun day and with a player in the house I can finally get to the business of enjoying LDs!
