No LD player has component video out. Yes some of the DVD/LD combination players have them, but they don't work for playing LDs (if you try, you'll only get a black and white image at best.)
Only LD players I know of with "an aluminum finish" would be some of the higher end Japanese LD players so if you want something like that, you'll be paying a premium to get one of those. Maybe something like the Japanese CLD-07G would be to your liking (which appears to be a CLD-D703 to my eyes):

I wouldn't go with Sony as with my experience I bought a Sony MDP-A3 LD player new back in 1995 and it went bad in just 3 years. Other people have had better luck and I've ready that some of Sony's MUSE LD players have a very good image, but since you say you don't need a MUSE player . . .
LDs and LD players don't have zones or regions. Only aspect that prevents you from playing an LD from another country is the TV standard. Since both the US and Japan use NTSC any Japanese or US LD player will work for you.
Since you want a later model player for fear of if it having mechanical issues, the one that will fit your need is the CLD-R5 from Japan. That model was among the last models of players being manufactured by Pioneer when they finally ceased production of LD players in 2009. The DVL-919 was among those last manufactured LD players, but adding DVD playback just adds more complexity to the player and more chance of it breaking down.

I wouldn't go with the MDP-A1. That's the same family as the one I had, the MDP-A3.
Don't worry about scart or S-Video. 99% of the time, you'll want to use composite output (the yellow connector) from your player as the processing inside the LD player (which is what will happen if you use anything other than the composite output) will not be as good as the the processing in whatever TV or monitor you feed it to. |

CLD-R7G has the silver finish and has quite a low profile
That's odd since the R7G I had was gold.
Mine too but I think it's one of those finishes that does tend too look more silver in certain types of light? My first DVD player was a Pioneer DV717 of similar vintage with gold finish and the effect was the same, applies to X9 also I find.
Guess it depends on the lighting for mine.

Is the solo yellow S-Video also the same than the yellow combined with white/red (video + audio)?
As I notified, not every Pioneer does have that cubic add-on on the back. CLD-R7G is only 40 cm depth (including its cubic add-on, but a smaller one) so this model should fit to my shelf I guess. CLD-3030 looks also great and no cubic add-on on its back, but I don't know its depth yet.
Btw, I also found some Sony with 40cm depth. Does Sony have an equivalent image quality than Pioneer?
p.s. my whole wall is covered up (weight and height) with an USM 35cm depth shelf which costed my about 12'000$ so I don't want to modify its depth, too much work and too much money to make it fit the player, that's why I need to make the player fit the shelf.
I'm only adding to the sound advice from the others above but if you can source a nice CLD R7G then look no further you won't be disappointed, lovely player and it's fitted with the best comb filter (arguably) in the business but you really have to use its s-video out to appreciate how good it is - forget composite as you'll miss out on what it can really do if you have to connect that way. No regular LD Sony will come close to this in image terms and as elahrairrah advises reliability does seem to be a problem with these so you have been warned! ;)
The are a few R7G about that have been modified for our 220-240v (EU) mains supply so no step down transformer required, infact a reputable seller in the UK had one on ebay only a few weeks ago, that would have been a good solution for you....anyway good luck with whatever you go with in the end! |
