Well, I just love a good mystery so I bought a copy of each to see what I can find out. Or something like that... |

25 years ago this month I got on Usenet for the first time. AVL was a favorite newsgroup. I still do Usenet, just for alt.obituaries. I see some usernames here from AVL. I was the guy who pointed out that the LD "The Black Hole" looks better when I run my Sony Wega in 16X9 mode... |

"That's the kind of sh!t that needs to be preserved".
A thread about industrial LDs would be nice. I could talk about ILDs I once had:
Early 80's AMC/Renault training discs. Their one eight inch is in the database here.
1989 Chrysler/Plymouth training discs... |

19 years ago I had some VHS tapes. "Rock Video Monthly" that I copied to DVD. I used the 1 hour mode on a Panasonic DMR-E80HS to get CD like audio on the discs. I play them back, and the image looks better than the original tapes... |

"Judging from your experiences, that seems to suggest Sony DVD players were pretty much in the same reliability league as their LD players then?"
Correct. I had an MDP-800 or 850 and it had a herringbone pattern right out of the box. Sony couldn't/wouldn't fix it... |

I like surfing documentaries and I'm trying to put together a list of releases on LD. Does anyone see a title missing?
Bali High
Big Wave
Blazing Boards
Chrystal Eyes
Endless Summer
Endless Summer 2
Follow the Sun
Follow the Sun 2
Free Ride
How Zit Bradda
Rolling Thunder
Surfer Magazine
Tubular Swells
Wave of the Future
Not a subject on DiscoVision even though "Skateboarding" was. Not a documentary, but the movie Surf Ninjas was funny... |

Guys, wait a minute. Not a database of releases, but just a forum dedicated to discuss them in. And while I'm here, a forum to discuss Industrial titles... |

Rule of Thumb for me is:
If the finale aspect ratio, as listed by IMDb is 1:85.1 it is an open matte film and I'll buy the LD. If the finale aspect ratio is 2:something, I'll buy the DVD... |

I saw a copy of this on Ebay:
Now That's What I Call Music Video: vol.01 (1983) [MP139-15VN]
I already had a rotted copy, bad enough to affect the audio tracks.
Rotted Mint Marks: MP139-A01 1A150227
Playback Perfect Mint Marks: MP139-A01 1A151414
The seller told me it played back okay, so I bought it. No rot or dropouts... |

I've always been used to seeing 3M Industrial LDs having a Gray cover. Just picked up this one with a Gold cover:
Visions of Success (1987) [---]
The reason it is Gold is because it comes with a 5 year warranty. The Gray ones are only 6 months. One of the Best 3M Industrial titles I have ever seen...

After posting the above, I got another 3M title. Gray cover, 3M in Red. Has the 5 year warranty.
Title is: Allied-Fiber Duel Fiber / Carpet-Ver 1
Note: Dual, spelled wrong...

"What do you like to watch"?
In the '80s and '90s, VHS was for stuff I could not find on LD, TV and Movie Bloopers and Out-Takes. Old TV Commercials, too.
There is one disc that has the above, though.
1984, I got a Panasonic PV-1220 for free. Bought Star Trek episodes at the Mall. Hated the picture quality, jagged lines around large objects and people. Bought a Pioneer PR-8210. Went back to the Mall and bought Star Trek discs... |
