Last spring me and a friend bought three broken Philips laserdisc
players from the early eighties: two VLP-600 and one VLP-700. These
players are very similar to the Magnavox VH8000, the first commercial
player in North America. It took a while but after combining parts we
finally got two players back in fully working order!

This has been a really fun project, and we have been working on it on
and off since we got the players. Initially we did troubleshooting
just as for any other broken electronics, but realized after a while
that we had to understand a bit more in order to fix the broken
mirrors and also to adjust the laser.
The these players are PAL only, and have no digital audio support.
Initially we could only test with the French dubbed version of
Titanic, which has no analog sound track. It was also CLV so we could
not test the trick features. It took some searching to find a disc
with PAL, CAV, and analog sound, but fortunately the excellent
marketplace at lddb made it easy to find!

| Just to say that I researched this a bit. I have an LD-V8000 and a Pioneer barcode reader UC-V109BC that works with LaserBarcodes. To my big surprise the barcodes also work with a CLD-515. Well, there aren't any specs, but I spent some time the last couple of weeks to figure out how it works: https://bitbucket.org/staffanulfberg/ldaudio/src/master/
I basically sampled the signals going into and out from my AC3RF decoder and wrote code to demodulate the bits going in, and also to decode the spdif stream going out. It took some crunching to figure out how it all fits together but it's not a mystery anymore:) |

I know this is an old thread but I found it when trying to find a solution for the very same problem. My HLD-X9 has had a small piece missing in the same section for some time, but a few days ago another piece broke loose and loading/unloading didn't work anymore. I fixed it by printing a small plastic part to replace the end of the rail. Works fine so far. The tray is made from ABS so I printed using ABS too, so no glue required: dissolving the two surfaces with acetone makes a great bond.
