I collect, tinker on, restore, and sometimes modify vintage headphones. It's been a fascinating and educational experience, so far.
EDIT: For example, I recently put the finishing touches on these:

Wharfedale ID1, from somewhere around 1972. The old fabric for the headband and ear cushions had degraded into a thick, pasty mess, so I sourced a new headband, and some replacement ear cushions which finally showed up in the mail. |

What is this, like some kind of "Hoarders Anonymous" thread?
If so, I like it. :thumbup:
A few days ago I managed to get my hands on a very special piece that I kicked myself for parting with. Honestly, I thought I'd never see it again.

Incidentally, while my friend was dropping off the Sansui, he also handed me this:

Both of them will likely need a full restoration. The Sansui I know for sure needs at least filter caps, because DC offset is extremely high. I found a fellow on the 'bay who sells restoration kits, so I think at some point I'm going to work up the nerve to dive in. |
