Just viewed Hamburger Hill on LaserDisc.

And G.A.T.T.I.C.A. (again ! ) (EPIC FILM)

Hamburger hill is over the top one of the top 5 most realistic Vietnam era warfilms.
The fratricide scene choked me up big time.
An estimated 12,000 people or more died from blue on blue FRIENDLY fire.
Things have improved however fog of war is still a dreaded fact of modern warfare.

Hamburger hill was the last BIG engagement of Vietnam before the withdrawal.
Check out that film if you like war movies.

Cheers to the membership l.......

Just viewed "The Andomeda Strain" in lieu of the Covid 19 pandemic.
Not trying to be morbid, however "The Stand" was my second choice of "outbreak favs" lol !

Seems that it is going to be 6 to 8 months to gauge how bad this storm is going to get here stateside.

Make no mistake, if you smoke, there is another BIG reason to quite staring us right in the face.
Covid 19 is not a typical flu consisting of nausea, vomiting, and good 'ole diarrhea.
This virus affects the lungs primarily.
People with comorbidities will be more challenged by this virus.

This is the seventh variant of the Corona virus strain.
The sixth variant was the Sars outbreak circa 2003.

Unfortunately, when Sars went more obscure, so did the funding for antivirals for Corona virus research.
Fortunately children seem less overtly affected by this contemporary strain.

Sadly, you can be a carrier for up to three weeks before becoming symptomatic.

Advice : wash hands after public excursions, avoid large gatherings, and quite smoking.
Also, losing weight would be a good measure.

Eat properly, sleep properly, and be mindful of surroundings and enclosed spaces.
When standing within 6 feet of another person, you are sharing water vapor.

The people of the world will persevere.
However we are in for a rough time it appears.

Ron Perlman is one of my favorite artists.

The industry in Hollyswamp did the whole cast and crew wrong not doing that third Hellboy installment.
And then churning out that rubbish Hellboy to make $.
Makes me want to puke !

Loved Perlman in Pacific Rim, especially that credits outtake where he comes out of the intestines !
Only Ron Perlman could play that character so legitimately !

Check him in "Enemy at the Gates" with Jude Law.
Epic world war II drama.

Thanks for linking this article. Looking forward to the read.
Now I can think of him being cooler then I already did since he is a Lazer Kid !

Cheers mates.....

Just recorded THE STAND for a buddy

Man, I forgot how much went into that production.
Really awesome dystopian saga....

WITH A HAPPY ENDING

Not a fan of Stephen King books or films per say.
HOWEVER - check out the stand if you never have and/ or revisit if able.
May just buckle down and read my first King novel !

Viewed "After Earth" with Will and Jayden Smith.

Gotta relay, original story, well written. Epic acting by father and son.
What a cool production to experience for the two of them.

Great sci-fi is hard to come by......

Check it out !

No mystery to me.
LaserDisc is a collectable media medium.
By percentage, very few people worldwide have an operational LD player in their domicile.
However, the people with the itch know what they like and wish for their collection.

World market for EVERYTHING under the sun will be different going forward from the current crisis to be certain.

I for one am quite content spinning up LD titles as people around me complain about broadband demand and Netflix disruptions......
I just nod and smile on the inside ... ;^)
To me LaserDiscs are priceless.......

Had a Tony Scott moment and popped Top Gun ac-3 into the tray.
Wow.....
Been awhile...

Watched Kingdom of Heaven directed by his brother Ridley.
Now that is a well made film with many fantastic actors.
David Thewlis stood out as did many others.

A little down time cinema.......

Take it easy people !

Epic clarity re : top gun pics.....
Utterly fantastic....

Continuing that Tony Scott theme this week.
Viewed Enemy of the State.
Forgot how well done that title was as well.
One of Will Smith's stand out performances in my opinion.

In regards to Top Gun fullscreen ac-3 query :
Cannot speak for all versions of full screen releases. I have a 1987 version that is pre ac-3 development.

My gatefold 1995 widescreen sports the AC-3 stereo goodness [LV 1692-WS]

Thoroughly enjoyed that revisit to Mavericks roots. Kelly Mcgillis was fairly easy on the eyes back then !
;^)

Take it easy people !

Cheers,

J

Just viewed DVD of TRISTAN AND ISOLDE and guess who was one of the executive producers : TONY SCOTT !

Also just viewed two roman themed films.

THE EAGLE w/ Channing Tatum
CENTURION with an all star cast too numerous to name.

All three of these are epic roman period films that were extremely well done.

Check em out .....

Really going out on a limb here.....

How about "FANTASTIC PLANET" ?
May fall under zeta's trippin balls genre !.

Also by the same creator (Rene Laloux)
LIGHT YEARS ......
These two films are both animated and highly original.
Gives credibility to the imagination and unlimited potentials therein.

Another title that comes to mind is Heath Ledger's last film -
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnasses. Now that film obviously is from the mind of the Infamous Terry Gilliam.
Another from him is the "Zero Theorem", I do believe these two are also under the "trippin balls" genre category.

Just my two cents.
Have not posted in a bit.
This thread caught my eye and I did not note these titles among those mentioned.

Alright, alright, alright.....

Check ya later !

The more people get tangled in diversity politics it is funny how diversity of thought is vehemently attacked.
The sjw's defend diversity, yet diversity of thought is not on the menu of decent behavior, forget manners.

Unless one is lock step with the social justice warriors spoonfed narrative then one is ostracized and labeled a "white supremacist", a racist, or the cliche "nazi".
What a clever way to marginalize anyone NOT in the collective ........
So insecure one must be if a discussion involving different opinions threatens someone so badly to the core.

This movement is alien to me.
I understand the hardship many peoples have endured throughout history.
The past has been violent, cruel, and without mercy for thousands of years.
Mankind has ruled by conquest for as long as history has been recorded.

Does this mean we keep "living there", dredging up old injuries, pain, and hardships ?
When will we stop living in the past and start living for today with our eyes and minds on tomorrow ?

People need to decide at what point do we "live and let live".
The 20th century is ripe with examples of collective power grabs.
Genocide, communism, and fascism played out there and were eventually defeated at great cost.
Do we need to tear down our western society and learn the same lessons again ?

Time will tell.

I have Irish, English, French Canadian, Hudson Bay Inuit, and some other bloodlines mixed up in my DNA/RNA epigenome.
However I am an American, and in America we ALL have the privilege of a legal system predicated upon the individual NOT the collective.
Equal opportunity is a work in progress however getting better as time marches on.
This is a relatively new experiment to humanity.
Yes there is imbalance, greed, and injustice however it is a work in progress. Not perfect in any sense.
Civil rights have improved legally more in the last 40 years then anytime since this colony broke from England.
Work is needed, government needs reform, education needs reform, and our corporations need restraint.
Dont ask me how people..... easy to point what needs fixing, hardest to fix though.

Do we tear it all down in the name of diversity excluding diversity of thought and free speech ?

When the French had their revolution, they guillotined the aristocracy for nearly three years, bringing the "knife" to every village to "eat the rich".
This was a failed revolution because the revolutionaries did not know how to rule. (My opinion)

The world, especially the states are at a tipping point.
Will reason and manners prevail ?
Will intolerance and ignorance sweep us into a collective cluster F**k ?

People need to take notice and decide how they can make their opinions count.
The mob is gearing up, we have seen the looting and beatings of storefront owners bludgeoned into unconsciousness.

The gig is up kids.
We gotta lay it on the line. Everyone to their own ability and capacity. As individuals if we wish to keep freedom an option, we need to s**t or get off the pot........ the mob is coming, and they dont care ......

Fortune favors the strong.

Cheers to the membership

sonicboom, the reason you read alot of opinions here is because people are encouraged to share their opinions.
This is a Internet Forum.

The topic is "FAWLTY TOWERS IS RACIST". Among these conversations is other targeted media deemed racist and being censored currently or long past tense.
Ie: song of the south, gone with the wind, etc....

Sir, the membership here have or are voicing their opinions.

Why on Gods green earth would you marginalize anyone's opinion here based on racial input ?
Your post is racist sonicboom. To deem that an opinion is any more valid or less valid based on race is by definition "racist".
What gives the membership the "right" to post an opinion ? Freedom does sonicboom, freedom.

Why do you accuse the membership of anything ?
Why are you guessing ethnic heritage and commenting about it ! ? ! And then inferring the negative.

Opining about the differences between male and female gender rights. Where did you come from man ! ? !
The joke is on you sonicboom. Your creating a wedge and claiming virtue about it.
That really is the irony here !

This is priceless man !
Your words -
"The world is changing whether you like it or not. I'm guessing that there will be much more media in the future, produced by non-Caucasians, that depicts Caucasian people as the raper/pillager stereotypes since it is historically accurate. I'm sure there will be a lot of opinions on those shows from Caucasians saying that they don't like how they're being depicted."

sonicboom, are you inferring that Caucasian people were the only raper/pillagers in history ?

Your narrative does not note the fact that every known culture since history has been recorded has ruled by conquest.
And then you infer about others opinions based on future media content.

A very subjective and divisive post sonicboom. What was your purpose in sharing all these educational tid bits, especially the squares and triangles metaphor ?
Do you consider us idiots here at the LDDB forum ?
Do you feel the membership needs a cultural lesson in cultural minority opinions ?

Let us hope that the world changes sonicboom. In a world torn with racial strife, economic collapse, and totalitarian regimes rattling the sabre of war, let us hope that things change.
Fortunately, change is the only constant on this plane of existence.
Let us just hope that reason and tolerance prevail over irrationality and intolerance.

If it is such a waste of time why did you burden the forum with your subjective narrative man ?

The only common thought that I agreed with in your post was the "the irony" statement after reading.
That was it though...
Try tolerance and acceptance ... these traits go further then divide and maginalize.....

This is a purely subjective interpretation on my part.....

However ....

WHEN HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN is definitely a stoner movie.

Once again, possibly a "trippin ball" genre as well.
Roddy "Rowdy" Piper at his best....... er or "worst" from a certain point of view lmao !

Radioactive Dreams is right there also.
These stoner movies from the '80's keep bubbling up through my consciousness.......
I leave it to the membership to judge my contributions accordingly.....

Cheers mates,

James

Just Viewed BRAVEHEART

Did not recall how epic that film is.
Over the top well done combat scenes.
Spatters on camera lenses never fail to get the juices flowing.

Hoping my opinion does not trigger any sensitive members......
Hmmmm, I lied, I do not really care .......

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Top Gun up to now? also I've had U571 for years and for a DD5.1 DVD it sounds amazing, I believe it got a late release on LD presumably in DD and I've always wondered how it sounded/looked, can anyone confirm?

Will confirm the visual and sound quality of U-571 is optimal.
One of my favorite movies on LD, not because of late release status.
Love the cast, story, and production.
Bill Paxton at his best dramatically imo !

That Top Gun AC-3 is prime, no doubt.....

Has anyone else heard the Strange Days AC3 track? The premise of that film if you havent seen it, is that there is a mini disc like device that can record the memories in your head. Wearing the device will allow playback of those memories as if you are really there. The camera goes into POV mode to show when someone is reliving a memory.

Its during these segments that the AC3 track comes to life. The surrounds engage in such a way that you feel like you are wearing the device and movements and voices can be felt from every angle. When the film goes into POV mode, it's like you are in the film. When I think of soundtracks that are truly immersive this one is at the top of the list.

I do recall this sound track.
Very stark, memorable along with the storyline.
Quite the rollercoaster of a story with a delivery only that all star cast could deliver....
Check it !

Cheers

Gotta contribute the fact that I saw "earthquake" in a little hole in the wall "crap" theater in the late 1970's.

That sensurround billing got alot of commercial hype back at the time.
Damn if it didn't shake the chair I was sitting in.
Seemed like a overdose of distortion and reverberating speaker sub woofer.
Did the trick though, I think they had to paint the interior after that movies run.

I was like 12 at the time.... so no tech review LoL !

Dene did it !

The "DUNE" trailer finally dropped only a few hours previous to this writing.

With a cast that would inspire even the most cynical amongst us !
(Had to go out on a limb !)

If and when movie theaters open again, may the whole story get traction for a long term production / telling in completion.

I so hope this is going to be as good as it looks to be.

A great trailer & the reworked Eclipse on it really fits so well.

walk without rhythm

We will need to wait and see, however, consider Dene's track record.
This creative genius does NOTHING half a**ed.

During the September 9th Colbert interview, Chalamet stated that he only acted in two green screen scenes.
The entire rest of his scenes involved principle photography with "real" scenery.
This sums up Dene and separates him from the rest of the cg directors out there.

Also look at Dene's filmography accomplishments.
This speaks volumes imo.

When I read that he was working on a screenplay for Dune two years ago I experienced a quiver in my liver.
No, really, a chill literally went through my entire body and my liver did a jump.
Knew then and there that the planets had aligned and that this director was our "messiah" to deliver Dune to the down trodden masses....
Apologies for being dramatic, however that is how I felt at the time.

Then to see the cast assembled over the next year made this fantasy come to life nearly too good to be true !

The cat is not out of the bag yet, judgment must be subjective and based on the experience of Dene's creative project brought to fruition.

Until then, with much anticipation and with bated breath, we will just have to wait until the premiere........

Bless the Maker, in his coming and going......

Cheers mates
