Check your subwoofer at home on the back it should say what it's rated at. Mine is 50hz
Are you sure thats not the input frequency? I had a look at mine today. It says 50/60hz input and then it says 90hz which I think is the crossover frequency. Anyway, my amp is an Onkyo 607 which I bought new in I think 2011. A few years ago the HDMI inputs stopped working. I never bothered to replace it because it was okay for stuff like Laserdisc as it was only processing the sound. After reading this thread, I wanted to hook up my PC over HDMI for testing but It wouldnt work. In the end I found a thread on a forum that said the caps on the board are faulty and need replacing. Sure enough that was the fault. I recapped it today so I can finally use the HDMI inputs again. I played around with a few test tones for the sub using videos like these off youtube. I found my sub went down to 25hz before it became inaudible. It was still pushing air at 5 hz.

Edit : I found a link to the Nov. '74 issue of American Cinematographer that disclord mentioned. It goes in depth about the making of Earthquake. Skip to page 64 to read sepcifically about Sensurround. Download it here .

Oh yes, there's quite a lot of it too. City Pop and City Jazz were very popular in Japan in the 1980's. There is quite a lot to choose from too so don't be afraid to dive in!

Have a look on Alphabet's invasive streaming service and you will find lots of compilations to get you started:

...and of course the most famous (in my opinion) of City Jazz artists was the wonderful Chickenshack. They did the soundtrack for the legendary anime Urban Square.

...oh and not Japanese but don't forget that Shakatak were absolutely huge in Japan in the 1980's (and still are popular today).

Here is 1986 Omega Tribe's brilliant song Crystal Night too if anyone is searching for it. Note it's not on this Laserdisc as it came later on...1986 in fact.

Hi there!

I am trying to document any info I can about installation points for AC-3 modding LD players. I want to post it all online to make it freely available for posterity. A friend and I just designed a very cheap AC-3 board that will be open sourced and released for anyone who wants to build one. If there is interest, I may also do a run of these in the $20-$30 each range. Basically I found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/255490712996 and found the price HIGHLY offensive. But that's just me, and not EXACTLY the point of this post!

So, I'm on the hunt for at the very least, service manuals for ANY player basically, then I'll dig through and try to make install guides. There is some info here and there, such as a great guide for the cld-702 (one I've followed and used to add AC-3 to my 702), and some install photos that may be useful, but not much concrete. I know there were people doing installs some years ago, so I'm certain that somewhere there are install guides or at least install points with diagrams. I want to get EVERYTHING posted (likely on consolemods.org, a new wiki we at retrorgb.com are trying to help grow and grow), any service/user manuals available, AC-3 mod install points/guides, gerbers for the PCB we designed, BOM, and general helpful tips for doing these mods.

Any info anybody has would be super useful, from "I have a pic of an installed mod" to "I have 100 install guides."

Thanks in advance!

I hope thats the right thread here. I found the following ad in a Laserdisc lot I bought some years ago. It´s some kind of a magazine and a membership. unfortunately my french is rusty, so maybeJulien or any other french speaking member can shed some light here. It seems that France once had a healthy Laserdisc scene.

It even appears to still be in business including a forum, sadly except for the Laservision/Laserdisc logo page heading I can’t find much mention of the format though having just had a quick perusal on there….

Wow, I didn´t expect that. So the site kept it´s name, thats very cool. There is also a store in Denmark (actually there were two, one in Aalborg, the other in Copenhagen iirc) who runs under the name LASERDISKEN. It still does to this day: https://www.laserdisken.dk/html/

That’s interesting, when you think that Denmark is still with two sites yet is only a fraction of the size/population of Germany or Britain etc. yet I’m presuming DE just like UK is now totally devoid of anything LD related?

teddanson, all I can respond with is…..

The sports bakery with the bathroom! I’ll give you a kilo of tomato! I’m sorry to leave you, but I have to buy a hat. I will ask these peasants who come to meet us, if the path they have gone through is bad. My hovercraft is full of eels. Where is the train station please? :D ;)

I should open up both and have a look inside.
Own the 230volts and a switched one.
Did anyone here give this a try anyway?
Hope it is as simple as soldering the connection in place

Added yesterday (for devices with DACs, as found in the user manual):

Frequency Response Low (Hz)
Frequency Response High (Hz)
SN Ratio (dB EIAJ)
Dynamic Range (dB EIAJ)
Total Distorsion (% EIAJ)

Ex: Pioneer CLD-D925

Frequency Response Low (Hz) => 4
Frequency Response High (Hz) => 20000
SN Ratio (dB EIAJ) => 115
Dynamic Range (dB EIAJ) => 97
Total Distorsion (% EIAJ) => 0.003

This is not a very faithful benchmark for quality but it would be interesting to see the evolution/improvement from the first Digital Audio players ( Yamaha CDV-1000 , etc.) till the last 90's models.

Hey all, I thought I would weigh in on this. I recently had a couple of processors show up (Yamaha DDP-1 and Denon AVD-2000) that did not work. They would turn on fine, the screen looked good, but they would not lock RF AC-3 signal.

I talked with someone over at LDF and they pointed me to possibly failed Voltage regulators. Sure enough, voltage was going in fine to the regulator, but only +1 Volt was coming out (should've been +5V). I replaced the same component on each device and voila, both work great.

Just something to keep in mind for future failed processors/demodulators.

I can confirm moving J2 to J1 will convert this device from 100v to 240v capable.

Before :

AC input 249VAC
Stepdown output 104VAC
Transformer output 20.7VAC

After

AC Input 249VAC
Transformer output 22.3VAC

Reviving a dead thread, but for good reason. I recently got a Yamaha DDP-1 and it exhibited similar symptoms to OPs.

As indicated in the post above, I ordered the micro processor from utsource.com but it didn't make a difference! Read below for the actual fix. BTW, the chip was $5 but shipping was $25, oh well.

When I pushed the power button, the display would initially light up YAMAHA DDP-1 etc. but it would not load the second part which would be to indicate no RF signal.

I've had a couple other DDP-1 failures before this one and received some good advice from someone over at LDF to check the voltage regulators.

IC22 and IC23 were both bad. These are 7805A (similar part https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/stmicroelectronics/L7805ACP/1038231 )

Each time I repaired a DDP-1, it has always been a 7805A voltage regulator. One of the symptoms was the machine would fire up fine but not process an AC-3 signal.

I attached a couple images below to illustrate where these are. IC23 is difficult to remove - you need to use a pair of pliers to first remove the set screw, then you can un-solder the part.

Board (excuse the dirt, waited to clean it until I knew I could fix)

Thank you cozzm0 !

Really neat:

RFD-1 PWR.jpg

In the video LIVE is on the right #7 and POWER starts on the left #1 (100V) -- also how my Japanese RFD-1 is cabled for 100V.

Moving POWER to #2 turns the RFD-1 from 100V to 120V.
Moving it to #4 turns the RFD-1 from 100V to 220V.
Moving it to #5 turns the RFD-1 from 100V to 240V (as shown in the video).

Anyone with a 120V/220V/240V model could easily visually check how the jumper is configured.
