Wow... I think I learned a lot about humanity in general reading this thread (and about the mindset of some very rude members). Glad you decided to split the sale.

Buying a used disc is no problem, make contact to seller and ask him to check the discs for country of origin.
Buying new factory sealed would be more difficult to check the country.

Oh okay did not think about that.
Maybe because I am not that crazy to collect unopened discs.

Vänliga Hälsningar,

I love the fact you open them.

Some people here are certainly going to get crazy, but I think LDs are to be watched... like cars are made to be driven not to be collected in glas boxes.
And I got to admit: I did open a sealed LD as well. :shh:

Maybe the goal is to collect two versions of every movie? One sealed and one to watch?

Hey everyone,

so after beeing active for I guess about two months I wanted to give you guys a short introduction.

I got into Laserdisc only two or three months ago by accident.
My father and myself were watching a movie. We do this occasionally and when we both find the time he comes over as I am the nerd with the better equipment.
We both love "older" movies especially from ~ 1985 - 2005. Most things released after just dont get me that exited. Of course there are exeptions.
I love the art of stop motion and if I would have been born earlier that would have been my passion / profession for sure.

But I digress...

We were watching Demolition Man and the character played by Sandra Bullock said something like "you are even better in real than on Laserdisc".
I always though this to be a joke and some futuristic term used in the movie for some archive disc.
This time however I checked the internet and was shocked / straight in love with the hardware, the quality and the discs itself.
I like old technology that was ahead of its time.
The best quote I found was "10% of Japanese people owned a LD player, while only 1% of Germans even knew what a LD was".
I fully agree with that.

I also like to fiddle with older electronics (collecting pinballs as well which is a rather rare hobby in Germany).
So after a lot of research here I bought myself a CLD-2950 which is in rather good shape I guess.
And after that I, of course, had to start building up a small collection.

So here I am. Yet another useless and expensive hobby. I love it!

Thanks to everyone here for all the posted advise that helped my out a lot!

Cheers,
Markus

Hey Agent,

if you queck the back of the cover you find chapters stating exactly what you thought to be the reason.

Side Two
12. Part One End Credits

Side Three
1. Part Two Recap Prologue

CLD-2950 -> Marantz 6014 -> LG OLED 77CX9LA

Pretty decent picture even with the large screen if set up correctly.
However I would love to watch on an old WS Bravia HD CRT like zeta, but lack the space (dedicated room) for yet another stupid hobby.

Cheers,
Markus

I think it would look pretty funny to see a video of someone forcing there laserdisc into the PS1 and slamming the cover.

Thanks for the tip rein-o.

Actually your idea did point in a completely different direction but made me find a few sites where I was actually able to finally find the movie I was looking for!

The movie is called "The Shadow Men" from 1997.

And... oh boy. This did not age well. :lolno:
Some things should stay in the past with this sparkling nostalgic feeling attached to it.

Yeah…see…when you say an “old movie” I’m not thinking 1997 because film history is well over a century at this point.

Too new!

Me neighter! That was one of the reasons I never found it. Always looked for actually "old" movies.
But when you are still young "old" is very relative.
Was irritated as well that the movie was only 2-3 years old when I watched it as a teen.

Saw that Mike Chi, the creator of RetroTink has added, then overhauled the motion-adaptive deinterlacer. Now he’s tinkering with a 3D comb filter. The guy is no slouch when it comes to adding features and tweakability. Also, I suspect a certain overlap between some of us LD fans and fans of retrogaming.

Thanks for the update!
This might change it to an „take my money“ moment for me.

Short update:
Yesterday a new firmware for the 4k has been released.

---

New RT4K Stable Firmware! This one adds quite a number of new features:

- XBR smoothing
- Enhanced S-video
- 3D comb filter for composite video
- Minimized glitches during resolution changes

and more!

---

Now it starts to get pretty interesting.
Of course I missed the latest batch of devices. Everything was sold out instantly.

Lets see when the first LD enthusiast gets his hands on one of these to play with the com filter.

The complete Changelog:

Changelog:
- Added XBR Smoothing
- Added Enhanced S-video
- Improved chroma response/sharpness for regular S-video
- Added 3D Comb filter for NTSC composite video
- Improved PAL composite and S-video
- Improved ability to track and hold poor VHS signals
- Improved MiSTer DV/Analogue decimation detection
- Minimized glitching during horizontal resolution changes
- Added option to blank video during major resolution chanes to minimize visual glitches
- Improved S/PDIF detection
- Various bug fixes

Hell yeah... these forced "Government warning" stuff and not beeing able to skip trailers (depending on the disc) was a pain in the...
I remember doing the same as you did with ripping all that stuff off my "backup copies".

That is actually one of the things I love most about LD.

And I’m sooooo glad it’s a lost art form. I don’t need starting a movie to take longer. Depending on the disc and the player you can waste over five minutes trying to start a film…which is longer than it takes to start a movie in any other previously invented format. Even threading a projector is faster than starting any Disney DVD.

“The customer’s time does not matter so consider it ours.” was the attitude, which I find deeply offensive. Also, threatening children with the FBI and lengthy prison sentences every time they watch a movie is just so screwed up. It’s the first thing they see every time they put in any Disney DVD. The word “PRISON”. And you can’t skip it. Not even the 1000th time you watch the movie. Satanic. Do you know who NEVER sees that warning? Pirates. Only people who pay get threatened with prison. The version downloaded via BT has had all that crap removed.

Customers, deeply ignorant as usual, excuse this because they think the movie is “loading” when you can’t skip stuff. In reality the DVD’s author has decided to deliberately make those things unskipable. Pointless delays are a FEATURE of the DVD format. Anyone who has authored one knows this.”
This. 100%.
Did compare Mary Poppins (DVD / LD) a month or two ago and I have grown a beard waiting for the crap ton of trailers on the DVD to finish.

Regarding your second part of the post:
What about this "Forper"? An old banned member of the forum? Sounds like there is a longer story behind this...

Welcome!

The only option you got to add some details about every specific disc is in your "collection" overview.

"My Account" -> "Collection" -> "List all by Title" (for example)

On every line there is a little pen symbol on the right side (there are three symbols appearing if you hover a title).
Click the pen and you can add a line of comment to every disc.

Cheers,
Markus
