I doubt that the Toshiba HD-E1KY can output DTS-HD MA and TrueHD bitstream over HDMI. This is a first gen player and the basic model. It should even have only HDMI 1.2, not 1.3
Only the higher end models could output the bitstream. Toshiba even locked out the EP30 from DD/DD+ bitstreaming even though the hardware was capable of it (no DTS-HD MA bitstream capability though).
I also wanted to collect Terminator 1 on LD but I picked the Japanese THX 1996 release instead because I liked the design better to be displayed in a frame on the wall.
US release of T2 in widescreen is the longest unrated version so this must be the #1 to pick I think  :?: I have T2 the THX Japanese version, I like this a lot.
BTW :?: On both DVD and blu-ray did T1 get fake stereo audio or is it mono audio :?:
Thanks for the info about the T2 ld.
Is this the
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) [PILF-2554]
the version you have and like?
About T1. Most modern-day releases of T1 have just the new 5.1 mix in the Pal territory. In Europe, we have never received original audio on digital discs.
You have more ways to get the original audio in Region 1.
The mgm special edition dvd of 2001 has it. And at least according to the package you also have it on the DVD Release of Terminator 1 from 2015.
That's a unique listing because it has DTS mix. No other The Terminator releases that i've seen has a DTS mix. Very interesting. It also has the Dolby Digital 5.1 which was a brand new remix. The USA releases starting in 2003 received this same Dolby Digital mix. I might pick up that Japanese release just to hear what the DTS sounds like. Cool find! To answer your question, it's a brand new remix so it was not sourced.
We find the first LD then THX LD releases with the matching non-anamorphic 1998 first Japan DVD release [ CPVD-1001 ] in Mono English/Japanese.

DVD is then updated to the MGM anamorphic transfer in 2001 with English DD5.1EX, English Mono and Japanese DD5.1EX as [ GXBA-15917 ].

Repackaged as the Ultimate Edition in 2003 where English DTS is added but English mono is removed .

Released again when MGM was purchased by SONY with a few tweaks in 2006 as [ TMUC-43877 ] until MGM quickly canceled the DVD contract with SONY. Released again by 20th Century FOX (same contents) as [ MGBGD-15917 ] few months later. Released again by 20th Century FOX (same contents) as a New Ultimate Edition with just a package upgrade as [ MGBUB-15917 ] in 2007.
I’m wondering if the disc is ever so slightly warped? it’s not always obvious until placed on a flat surface as I found with a LD that had a similar issue.
Reddit is a great website but when it comes to stuff like home theater it’s a travesty. It’s just people wanting to be congratulated for everything non-stop 24/7. Members are aggressively urged to NEVER provide anything but POSITIVE FEEDBACK ONLY. In engineering terms it’s like a PID loop with no P or I. What could go wrong? Questions like, “Why did you buy that?” are considered satanic. “Why not?”, they’ll respond, as if a modern quantifying human being was ideally operating open loop non-stop and never needs an actual reason to do anything…only a reason to *not* do it, right? If you have the credit and time off just do EVERYTHING. You’re never going to get old and die so keep buying more Star Wars crap and slabbed collectibles FOREVER. You should NEVER question yourself.
A lot of really stupid really depressed people need smoke blown up their skirt literally %100 of the time or they will straight up just kill themselves. Do you want to be responsible for that? Obviously not. So just post picture after picture of tech crap you blow your money on. After a while you’ll be so depressed yourself that you’ll understand the policy totally.
Luckily not on game discs yet. But. had rot on DVDs and even a couple of blu-rays.
I started purchasing DVDs quite early on when the format was first launched. I noticed about 12 months later that certain titles were frosting over with a white glaze appearing on the play side. Checking the titles these were all manufactured by a company called Technicolor. I did some research and found Technicolor had previously acquired a Nimbus CD manufacturing plant which itself had produced some problematic CDs. After a lengthy process HMV put me in touch with the distributor who put me in touch with the manufacturer so I could speak with them directly. They were very helpful, acknowledging that the problem was their fault. The DVD manufacturing plant was in Wales. The discs had not been subjected to enough UV light for long enough to harden the lacquer on the play side during manufacturing. Ironically it was a similar problem with some earlier Nimbus CDs from the same plant but on the label side where they tended to become sticky. Many 80s Nimbus CDs are like fly catchers and often look filthy because they attract so much dust and dirt and you can't wipe them clean. They still play but look awful - again I see loads of these on sale on Ebay - they are so recognisable because of all the dirt stuck to them!
Anyway I told the Manager at Technicolor about the Nimbus CDs more as an aside and was not expecting any action since they didn't own the plant when those CDs were made. To my astonishment he sent me Amazon vouchers to buy replacements for all of the CDs affected which came to several hundred pounds. I was also sent brand new replacements for all of the DVDs affected which from memory was a few dozen.
The Technicolor DVD plant closed down in 2007 so I was fortunate to report these issues before the closure. All of the replacement DVDs have been fine to this day. I was playing many of them recently and all still work.
Jurassic Park DTS $30 Max Jurassic Park AC3 $10 Max
In the Craigslist days, you were guaranteed to find a copy of JP AC3 in any lot you pick up for next to free. I don’t think the discs are getting rarer but the sellers who are willing to pack and ship these are becoming scarce. I don’t blame them. A cup of coffee at the drive through is near $5. A cold sandwich at the gas station is almost $10. Calories you burn to pack the discs and move your rear end to the post office cost more than the $3 you net on the common title.
I should've specified as in only a month and I check every day. I see posts after posts of the Stereo Mix and a few weekly pop up for the DTS mix but not the AC3 version. It's why I assumed it was a rare release.
Japan never got a DTS or AC3 release for the first Jurassic Park, it adds a little to rarity.
But one month is nothing, keep waiting as long as needed. Rare doesn't always mean expensive, just harder to find for the few people interested.
Might pop up as part of a lot as well just like this one last week (JP AC3 + JP 2 AC3 for $55): https://www.ebay.com/itm/116382933666
RSS is just a cheesy stereo expander effect. It doesn’t decode or do anything like actual surround…at least I don’t think it does. It’s like the cornball “HALL” and “LIVE” FX built into a cheep boombox but they prerecord it that way they can target its use. It’s a two channel thing.
I’ve only ever seen its use advertised in the PC Engine version of Dracula X. All the audio that uses it is redbook CDDA so it could be sampled by just playing the game in a regular CD player or even MP3s.
I loved that show. I loved Rhonda. I loved Gilbert. I loved Rick Shaw’s Kung Fu Theater. I loved Dynaman and Sorority Sisters at the Slime Ball Bowl O Rama. I loved just hearing Gilbert say, “Sorority Sisters at the Slime Ball Bowl O Rama” in a long belabored way.
Maybe being zone/region free for DVD and BD is a requirement?
I don't know about the Panasonic players but, for the OPPO BDP-10x/UDP-20x there is another interesting value if you are willing to jailbreak the firmware (it's actually quite easy, even fully automated for US versions).
It gives you the following:
DVD/BD/UHD/SACD ISOs <= These work for me DVD-Audio ISO <= These work for me BDMW (2D/3D) files ACVHD files DVD region free <= confirmed, + mine was region-free at purchase DB region switching <= confirmed, it erased my initial region-free version but setting the menu language changes the region
This gives 2 main benefits:
1/ You will be using the optical block a lot less, potentially extending the player's life. 2/ If you have a NAS, you don't even need to get up and get the disc to play your movies.
Yep from our Grasshopper, last test disc he has that he can let go, he listed it and just told me, I just sent him a message as the price is way too cheap, so get it now before he puts the correct price on it.
Has a rough sleeve but its an important disc to have if you plan to keep LDs for the near future.
Wonder if it will make star wars look better????? Maybe they can add that cut scene from the death star back in the 77-25 cut.
Seriously don't stick that thing into any LD player, this is just a bad gimmick all around trying to milk more money out of the LP collectors who converted to LD.
Oh, they care. If you ask them why all they do is photograph their mail they get super mad. You’re never supposed to question that ever.
I once asked a group of thinkers if they thought people in 1983 photographed every LD they bought and they suggested that I was old and that I hated myself.
There may only be one quality post a week here…but thats four times as often as other places.
