| Open the remote, separate the keypad from the circuit board, clean each, and re-assemble |

| My guess is the LD position microswitch on the A side. Unplug the unit when the laser is oscillating in and out of the turn mechanism on the A side. You have to remove the top audio board and then turn the load gear under the tray on the front right to open the tray and remove the tray. Depress the LD and CD detect buttons a few times and then manually turn the gears to lift the mechanism and then push the laser forward toward the spindle, turn the gears to lower the tray and put the unit in tray open mode, reinsert the tray without a disc and see if it properly cycles a load/unload. |

Look at the service manual link below, pdf page 11 of 53, 2.8 mechanism assembly and find item 29. you'll find it in the area area behind the spindle motor on your 703. The CLD-D704 and CLD-D703 have the exact same mechanical assembly.

I was going to ask about the grip ring before your 2nd post.
The answer is yes. The grip can play a big factor because in the transition from A to B that disc needs to be slowed down quickly to get going in the opposite direction and have the laser read Side B by a determined amount of time. If any of this fails, the player will give up.
There are replacement grip rings available on ebay as you probably already know. |

Unplug the power cord first.
There is more than one connector. As you flip the front down, mark each one and/or take a photo so you know the correct orientation.
The connectors have a lock, you can practice with the easily accessible ones running from the power supply (but don't remove any there, remove from the front panel). This lock can break if you aren't careful.
Straighten any slightly bent leads when you go to reinsert and make sure each one is in the correct hole before locking the connector. |

| Focus servo needs adjusting if it only happens on yours. If it happens on all players then it is either warp or laserrot. |

| Most likely need to replace the movement motor package on the back of the pickup. If could be the drive IC but I've had movement motors that fail the smaller steps that needed replacement. |
