I received a weird email this morning... and somehow the writing style/vocabulary reminds me of Ricardo "cararte" Quote: This is specially for you my friend....have a good life We are sending this email to all laserdisc fans. Together with our Master Creator we are creating a Laserdisc Data that will serve all your needs. Advantages: - Free sales for everybody - Post your collection and access all the data of the special contents of your discs - Legal photos from master archive - A much more enjoyable place as you will all see... Will be live soon... - I wish their was a mailing-list of "all laserdisc fans", but I haven't found one yet.
- It sounds so much like LDDb.com that I fear an illegal copy of the database+covers
- Please tell me if the current site is not enjoyable at all
- Administration of site like LDDb takes an awful amount of time, starting from scratch took me 10 years to get to something that I start feeling is decent enough...
Let's see. Julien

No you are not being paranoid! This was the same guy who posted online that laserdiscs would be produced again and to watch this space.... He was talking like he had bought up one of the last LD production plants in the world and was going to license the rights to continue to produce his own laserdiscs. On a more realistic note he also claimed he would post comparision playback pics of the HLD-X9 versus the HLD-X0. He never even got round to doing that which is proof he is all talk and no action.

substance wrote: I think there was already another laserdisc fans type forum. It went down shortly after due to lack of interest. Substance is correct, Carte did start or tried to steer everyone to this new LD forum back in 2005-2006 est. When we were on the old Alt.lasetdisc group. I remember clearly now....

Let's see. Julien Julien, I can certainly understand your concern about this, but here is the reality: We're not worried about the supposed mailing list of "all laserdisc fans". We're only interested in the REAL fans of this great format, all of whom are already here! I wouldn't presume to speak for everyone here, but I can personally state that I have always obtained a tremendous amount of enjoyment from the LDDb site. I consider it to be THE DEFINITIVE website devoted to the format, and to this hobby we all so richly enjoy. "Decent enough" doesn't do justice to the work you have done here. You mentioned the amount of time it takes to administer a site like this. Well, I'm sure most everyone here will agree with me when I say that I truly appreciate all of the time you devote to this site, out of what we all know is your very busy professional and personal life. As far as I'm concerned, you don't hear "thank you" nearly often enough for your efforts here. If I didn't believe that this was the best website related to LaserDisc, I wouldn't have spent the amount of my time I have over the last 10 years trying to help you build it into what it is today. I can only imagine how much time you have devoted to it as the Administrator. To sum up, Julien, I wouldn't worry too much about this cryptic message from some impostor. Let him try if he wants to rip off what you have done here. He's doomed to failure, in my opinion. You're the best at what you do, Julien! You always have been, and always will be! Keep the Faith, David

Same here. Really can't thank you enough Julien. The time, the care, the effort, the pure common sense of the site overall is so appreciated. Best regards.

I discovered LDDB.com within a few weeks of starting to collect LDs in 2006 and began using it instantly. It was easily the best source for information on laserdisc releases in the world and has continued to improve. Any other sites I've seen crop up since then are really poor immitations that never came to anything and all failed. I placed orders with Ricardo "cararte" for American Psycho and Cruel Intentions on laserdisc from his personal LD pressing plant. I'm still waiting.....
