I only got one disk from him quite a while ago... and I was on his e-mail list - the last one was on Aug 12, 2017. My guess is he was trying drop shipping, which probably went badly and cost him his eBay account: Quote: DaDon's Rare LaserDiscs becomes DaDon's Rarities

SSL certificate for https://dadons-laserdiscs.com/ was wrongly generated for mail.dadons-laserdiscs.com on Dec 9th and since the website uses HSTS, you can't reach the website at all now. eBay account is also "unregistered" now. DaDown? Julien

I see this is an old post but I actually got a response from DaDon back in February of 2018, a few months before this post was made. Quote: Ciao Sonny !
Thank you for the order !
Before you pay, I just want you to know that I had a major size 10 - heart attack in November. So, between doing inventory and my health it will be at least two weeks before I can ship.
Let me know if this is okay and I will send you a PayPal invoice I figured if this guy was ripping me off, he wouldn't even give me the chance to cancel this early. So I accepted and then ... I waited a month and nothing. So I sent another message and he replied: Quote: Ciao Sonny !
I am feeling great just fighting high blood pressure and light angina.
I was able to find a helper. He is finishing inventory and a general reorganization of the LaserDiscs. We have over 11,000 in stock so it is quite a task. We expect to be done this week and to start shipping again next week. When we ship we will send you a tracking link.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Grazie,
DaDon I waited another month and cancelled the order via PayPal. I never heard from him again. This was my first time ever dealing with DaDon so I just assumed I caught him at the worst time ever. And maybe I did. Or maybe he was jerking me around. Maybe he got crushed by the 11,000 discs. Or maybe his helper stole them all in the greatest laserdisc heist of all time and Scorcese is gonna immortalize it in the most badass gangster flick ever made.

Speaking from experience, when life grabs you by the neck like that, you forget about stupid s**t like Laserdisc real quick. Not me, stupid s**t like LD keeps me going in the hard times..in fact movies, music and s**t has saved my life a number of times. Without them, a lot of times I would've had nothing and nobody..

Quote: Duncanism Thanks to this thread for increasing my vocabulary Duncanism is, indeed, a phenomena not limited to our very own rogue veteran LD tech. It reminds me of lurking the old rgvac arcade game newsgroup and reading the saga of an arcade game shipping guy named Randy Buffalo. Buffalo (an alias) left dozens of games in limbo when he copped out on doing his job, then the community had to organize a group effort to save the games which required even more money (while Buffalo never gave back a cent shipping charges). Some games wound up exposed to the elements while languishing with Buffalo, some were never recovered. Much like the efforts to send that private eye to Duncan's barn to save a few LD players. Sometimes Duncanism is a function of the entropy that catches up with all of us eventually. This was some component with Duncan - health conditions, aging, wife's death - but he was still taking on players long after concerns were raised here and his backlog known, which was pure scamming behavior. In contrast, DaDon seems to have handled the endgame in a more standup manner, letting customers know the situation instead of pocketing their money. Niche hobbies like this go hand in hand with Duncanism, as you have to trust the rare individuals with skills/items as opposed to companies with redundant staff and various protections (and local access). Oddly enough, here's a pic of DaDon and Duncan during better times for them both when DaDon visited the Bayview shop:

kone4 wrote: WOW! They are gone now. I did not know that. I can get on the web page still. What browser are you using? Chrome or Firefox can't because: Quote: Websites prove their identity via certificates. Firefox does not trust this site because it uses a certificate that is not valid for dadons-laserdiscs.com. The certificate is only valid for the following names: mail.dadons-laserdiscs.com, www.mail.dadons-laserdiscs.com Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN What can you do about it? dadons-laserdiscs.com has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Firefox can only connect to it securely. You can’t add an exception to visit this site. Julien
