They aren't good. The big issue is that you no longer get your fee back on refunds.

I'm debating closing my paypal account entirely. I'll certainly be switching to venmo and google pay for forum transactions and pretty much everyone on eBay accepts credit cards. The only issue is I couldn't sell on eBay which wouldn't be the end of the world but would be annoying.

"The flat fee is set at $0.30, and has never been subject to refunds" is true now but in early Paypal years even the $0.30 would be refunded.

So I was standing at anything from 2.9% + $0.30 to 3.9% + $0.30 (1% for cross-border).

And now... up to 7.9% that could be lost for a refund?

I supposed people will ask their buyers to pay as "friends & family" since there is no refund option?

Next step for TransferWise, Revolut or N26 will be to let people make small payments from account to account for a marginal fee?
That'd be the death of Paypal for local/small transactions.

Why can't you sell on ebay without paypal??

I saw recently some accounts that don't even take paypal.

If this is for the person returning then the only good outcome will be that it will make the person think twice before returning.
But it does put a damper on things and I feel that this is the death of internet sales, we will only have small private transactions like
here, reverb and other sites that allow no paypal anymore.

I think I'd have to pay them for a pro account or something. Then again maybe if I add my bank account that will let me accept cards. Idk, but I definitely want to find out.

Edit: I'm sure people could pay me with cards now but the money itself always goes to my paypal is the issue.

Oh OK, I signed up so long ago that I may have been grandfathered in?

But I do take paypal, I may look into not taking it, but then again I may have to take the 60 day returns rather than 14. Or I would rather take no returns.
I don't take paypal on reverb but do on discogs and actually sell more on reverb than discogs.

That's lame. Does this also apply to GSP refunds?

It used to be like that after eBay purchased Paypal until... Wall Street decided that eBay was not going to rule the world against Amazon for long but that Paypal had higher margins, contributing to a significant % of eBay revenues. They were more valuable as separate entities than combined.

https://www.networkworld.com/article/2173675/icahn-wants-ebay-to-spin-off-paypal.html

Paypal is up 150% since the plans were revealed.

Then eBay announced they'd drop Paypal over time to switch to Adyen who then successfully IPO'd @ 400 EUR (~687 EUR as of today).

https://www.ebayinc.com/stories/news/ebay-to-intermediate-payments-on-its-marketplace-platform/

In a funny twist of events, eBay purchased Skype for all the wrong reasons and later sold it back at a massive loss to its previous owners.
Skype then sold itself again to Microsoft (with huge profits for the stock-options holders!) and the initial Skype team then went to on start TransferWise.
