What the hell are you talking about? Once an item is considered “used” it’s immune from taxation? By what logic? We’re not taking about private transactions here, or even LDDB. This is a trillion dollar company essentially operating in the grey market and its 20 years on now.

I thought ebay was private transactions.

Nope. Not sure about other countries but ebay shares data with Australian Tax Office on request, it's to help catch people evading income tax. They also collect GST for the Australian gov from imports on ebay.

Btw, the posters are being babies. Americans are cheap selfish petty people who don’t want to pay any amount of tax for anything ever. They don’t care about roads and hospitals and stuff. They want that %6 in their pocket...so they can blow it on lotto or whatever.

In Europe people pay taxes because they want the benefits they bring.

You really hate your own countrymen don't you? A few countries in Europe are actually dead broke because tax evasion is so common that almost no one ended up paying taxes.

In Asia people pay much less income tax than Americans and Australians do but almost all Asian countries are very good for infrastructure and healthcare. The problem with Western countries is it all goes on Welfare. I'm a bootstrap kinda guy, stand on your own two feet if you can, don't mooch off the government and other taxpayers.

When I see a dole bludger with smokes, booze, a car and a decent public housing unit yeah I get pissed off I'm paying so much tax for their life. Meanwhile I can't afford to smoke or run a car and half my income goes to rent. This is where a lot of people think the system is rigged. I had hard times but the stupid thing I did was keep trying, in this corrupt system I shoulda given up, whinged more and got everything for free, not having to work to boot and spend the rest of my days eating pizza, drinking beer and watching LDs, not a care in the world. I could be like one banned poster here! I could have THE LIFE, and not even have to ever again bend over to keep my crappy job.

Deadlegion, I know you're a punish success, commie kinda guy. Yep, when people actually beat the system and get ahead, tax em out of existence 'ey? Unfortunately if you do that, the people with money, their companies and the jobs they bring will all leave the country and setup some place else. In Australia they're already looking at the door with our power prices and wages.

Takeshi, that is it, I don't believe small scale selling of personal used items should be taxed either. It's bull s**t done by greedy oversized governments who just want to perpetuate their useless and bloated existence. Basically if the Australian government sees money move they want a piece of the action, they are exactly like the mafia.

I've seen more items on eBay being taxed lately. It's really frustrating because it just makes the prices of things go up.

Don't forget the prices of my tape and cardboard also went up, used to pay 20 for a roll of packing paper now its 30
and the local store doesn't carry it anymore.........
So your prices go up

Even if you go "surface", prices will increase as well as 3~4 years shipping contracts are being renegotiated right now at 6~7 times the pre-covid prices...

Bottom line, a changing world mates.
Nothing is static on a world in flux !

ALL PRICES, ESPECIALLY FOOD ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SKYROCKET.

I advise my son to detach.
To not get emotionally upset or distracted, especially by the inflation currently racking our system stateside.

Some solutions and tactics to navigate this path unfolding ahead !

Attend my soapbox beast mode :

Adapt, improvise, achieve, and overcome obstacles .... especially financial.

Ooda loop - observe, orient, decide, ACT.
DETACH - PRIORITIZE - EXECUTE.

Cliche I know, however these formulas allow me to persevere on a daily basis through my occupation in the field and in the clinical setting.....

Check shipping rates frequently......
Check interest rates frequently as well ....
And stay tuned, we are in for one heck of a ride to be certain !

Check interest rates…why? I’m not in the bond market or anything.

My advice: don’t spend all your money and then gripe when you’re broke because you left yourself open to commodity fluctuations. If gas goes up %40 and now you’re totally broke you obviously were on the edge before the price increase.

Why check interest rates ?

W e l l .....
If your a new home buyer, or construction loan applicant, interest rates determine your monthly mortgage payments.
You know this zeta, academic man.

In the 1980's interest rates on loans went to 14 % in the states, 24% in Canada.
When interest rates went down in the 1990's to around 6 % people thought it was free money.

It appears the rates are going up to check the inflation currently gutting us.
During president Reagan's era, same hikes checked inflation from the Carter years, or so I read.

Good advice not spending all ones money though, agreed....

Cheers to the membership....
