Post subject:  Should we display listing date on shops' items?

Hello!

Following this discussion (Possible to post when an item was listed for sale?), a year/date was added to all items listed in shops.

I received both positive and negative feedback about that.

So... it's time to have a round of opinion checking :-)

I'll contact all sellers separately to let them give and voice their views.

Julien

Don't see what relevance this would have

More bargaining power for buyers if something has been sitting for many years.

Go for it.
I'm a seller since 2004 and I certainly have items sitting in my shop since 15 years.
I don't see any bargain relevance here, as most of them will be priced below $5, but I find the information interesting for my inventory listing.

In that case definitely not so much. I was thinking more for titles with inflated prices and wanted to give an answer as to why it might be relevant. Good point on it being useful for other reasons as well. Good for helping sellers track as well.

We should have 2 date : 1st time the article is online + date of the last update.
The original price and the new price should also be visible. Like this we can do like bargain time, or other interesting things.
It should also be good to have an link to the front page not only for the first upload, but also when we update prices (cheaper).

I would suggest making it optional for store to show if they wish. I think it is great from looking at inventory perceptive.

I like the seller choose option.

As long as we’re discussing this, what about the past sales feature? It just doesn’t seem to reflect the going rate for a title. Is that because it’s averaging sales prices over too long a time period??? I don’t know why, but the price doesn’t seem to reflect trending prices quite often.

Would store operators have to go back in and list the dates, or can the dates be listed by Julian "flipping a switch" and the dates would appear?

This info is not needed for the Buyer. Great tool for the seller only and should be optional to show. I say turn it off until you figure out a better way to deal with it.

I vote for optional participation.

This feature has its appeal however would like the option to opt out....

I could not care less.

If a ultra rare LD is not sold within 3 days after listening, it does not get sold anyways. There is a best offer button for %50 discount, what more bargains are needed.

Cheap $1 LDs which everbody, have does not matter too, how long listened in the shop.

Yes.

When I've checked stuff I have in my collection I see prices well above what I've paid. In fact with some titles even if I were to get 50% off the cheapest available it would still be more than what I've paid.

As far as I know I don't have anything considered rare.

I think it´s a good idea to show the listing date. I guess I rather lower my prices when I actually see that some stuff is sitting there since xxx years. So, I voted "yes". Besides, I think it´s generally interesting to see the listing date in shops.

Hi Julien,

I think it is a good idea, but it should have a "privacy option" like on ebay to make public or private when following a search or seller.

Thanks,
Chuck

This sounds like the best bet.

On my previous comment, I wouldn't want to send an offer for 50% on an item I know had only been up even a couple weeks or a month. If I know something has been available for years, maybe it's different. But having it as an option to display it or not for each shop seems best.

I just didn't realize what a big deal this topic was.

Always best to consider all shopping options. The main benefit to buying here is the seller will typically pack well and knows if it's rotten or not. You've been buying from someone that knows LD on eBay, it's not always the case.

I do think some are priced as such where they will never really sell. I recently won an LD on eBay for $25 + shipping. I was even kind of hoping I would be outbid but it's a bargain compared to what is up here, $75 and $100. Their choice of course, but I didn't want to even message them to see how low they would go given the listed price. The actual sold history here shows much less, so it seems to be hopeful speculation.

I don't see any extra value in this. I'd rather suggest an optional 'Make Offer' button like on ebay.
