There is this Chumbawamba song I like where they sample a guy, not sure who/when, who is presumably talking about Thatcher’s state funeral plans, and he says something like “...you could give everyone in Scotland a shovel, and we’ll dig a hole so deep we’ll deliver her to Satan personally.” I don’t know if it’s just the way he says “personally” with this terrific Clydeside speech or the metaphor itself but I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. It’s so funny, and so sad, and the illustration so vivid.
I think there is still a market for those shovels, is what I’m saying.
