Has anyone implemented this? I haven't come across Payoneer and I still see Paypal on ebay. I know it'd be a slow process but I thought I would at least see one by now.

I believe this is for international sellers and or sellers in general.
We can always pay with paypal, they can't say they can't allow paypal.
Even aliexpress which I just used today said on the item page credit card only but when I went to pay they gave me a paypal option.

It comes in stages.

Given the rushed/pushed roll-out with short deadlines I think.... eBay is in the next level targets (after the GAFA) for tax/VAT avoidance and professional sellers passing for individuals.

Now they need a LOT of personal information to get your eBay/Payoneer accounts sync'ed.
Mine is taking longer because I keep hitting the system's limits (French, Japan resident, account in the USA).

From July 1st, they will have to pre-collect VAT/GST in UK and EU.

I believe the next step is to report to the tax authorities anyone selling more than a given threshold (professional or individual powersellers) to consider if extra income should be recognized and... taxed. For example, in EU now, you need to pay taxes on a refurbished phone as if it was a new one. The same phone could potentially get taxed multiple times. That will hurt flippers a lot. Also in France, by law -- although it's nor fully enforced yet -- if you sell more than 3000€ and/or 20 transactions a year, you should be taxable. Any single sell above 5,000EUR is taxable on the paper (36.2% of profits).

Given that most of what individual people sell 2nd-hand items on which VAT/GST has already been paid, it's a government money grab move trying to close loopholes and generate more taxes after getting heavily in debt for COVID.

The flea market years seem to be over soon, it lasted a good 20+ years.

While I think the 3000€ per year is generous for private sellers, the no more than 20 transactions per year is not.
I wonder how many transactions I had last year, certainly more than 20.

I have not accepted the new eBay payment system yet, the consequences so far are: I cannot edit my online auctions anymore.
I cannot add any new auctions anymore. Further consequences announced: All auctions will be deleted from July 9 onward.
Are there any alternatives? Probably not, or if there are those sites will probably have to come up with similar rules sooner or later.

The only real alternative is using forums, discord, instagram, facebook etc to meet people and buy/sell/trade with them. At that point it's basically like a yard sale, good luck taxing it.

Facebook Marketplace does not exist in many countries (including Japan) for legal (and probably tax) reason.

I might see a sharp increase of requests to be a seller on LDDb coming July 10th...

Just got fully sync'ed (eBay+Payoneer).

Hi Julien,

Payoneer has been able to verify your account and your registration information for eBay to manage your payments is under review. We’ll notify you once your registration information has been reviewed by eBay and before activating your account on managed payments. Nothing will change in how you sell on eBay until then.

Will get to experience how the whole thing works at the next item selling.

Ah yeah I wasn't even particularly thinking of facebook marketplace. I've bought/sold things from people I met on facebook just via messages.

Dealing with multiple idiots (or hopeful scammers it is hard to say) on eBay this week made me consider just pulling everything.

They're really in a big hurry:

Quote:
Thank you for registering for managed payments on eBay.

Your account will be activated for managed payments on the morning of 09.07.2021. Once activated, your existing listings will be automatically updated and will reflect the different ways your buyers can pay. You should not see any interruptions to orders received while your account activation is in process. You will receive a confirmation once your account has been activated for managed payments.

First one in: We calculate your fees based on the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, shipping and handling costs, sales tax, and any other applicable fees.

Order total $120.00
Total fees (VAT) -$20.19
Net order proceeds $99.81

To me that's a 16.83% fee.

Comparing with previous situation of 12% eBay on item + 3.9%/$0.30 Paypal on item+VAT = $19.76 (16.47%), it's actually slightly worse and still way too much.

What's wrong with the 1.35% "international fee" when they force you to use USD anyway and the linked bank account is in the US, in USD?

I am not sure where the money is going ("Available Jul 12") because Payoneer says it will go to my Payoneer account while eBay says it's going straight to the bank account linked with my eBay/Payoneer seller's account...?

It should go straight to the bank account you linked to ebay, that's the way it is with my ebay account.

Yeah it will just take a few days.
I have the same on Reverb and other sites, just how its done now.

16.83% isn't really that bad considering when I had a booth at an antique mall they took 15% on all sales and also wanted a monthly booth rental even
if you had no sales that month.

Then... what was the point of setup'ing a Payoneer linked account exactly?
Just to make companies/professionals forced to disclose company details?

But that requires physical space... eBay has none of that.
So I increased all my prices on eBay, they'll need to bring me a premium to deserve their fees.

We are now July 13th and I had to dig up eBay France URL for the new selling account to get an eBay balance.
Another bonus: the link for "Learn how you get paid" doesn't work!

So, it doesn't go to Payoneer or the bank account first, I suppose?

(Updated)
It's
Payment -> delayed payment to eBay balance -> next day bank transfer -> another 3 business days to bank
Payment -> delayed payment to eBay balance -> next day Payoneer transfer -> bank transfer -> another 3 business days to bank

6 days minimum? But you have to ship within 3~4 days?

All of that for more fees. Brilliantly moronic.

Time to finish coding the Hardware database.

I did get a new stream of selling requests starting with "I can't use eBay anymore"...

Lets hope you get a shape increase of buyers, or sellers who want to sell.

The customer acquisition on all these sites are just nothing compared to the monster ebay is, even now where ebay
is a drooling, one eye missing, broken arm and stuck in quicksand it still has the customers to keep coming back.

Business with used stuff is just a hard business, its not easy, people only want specific stuff and once they get that
they don't need a second one, its also hard to find a second person who wants it.

How rare is rare stuff if one has had it listed for sale for years :ugeek:

Now add the $2.50 fee to withdraw from Payoneer to bank account and we're up to 18.91% fees on this $120 transaction.

I really fail to see the announced "ease, improvement, flexibility, cost reduction" anywhere but for eBay bottom line.

Buyers can pay with Paypal but it will go to your Payoneer account (or directly to your bank account, but that was not an option for me with being registered in Japan), not your Paypal account anymore.

this is the most confusing mess I ever heard of. Ebay is trying to make a move that shoots itself in the foot.
