I’m assuming those would be Hong Kong dollars, otherwise that price sucks for something worse than VHS. Heck, I think the remastered LD was only $30 USD. Singapore maybe? What’s the date?

Looks like Singapore to me.

That price sticker should be Singapore dollars.
The same release would probably be sold on the Malaysian market even with the Singapore stickers still on it, but Malaysia doesn't have dollars.

I have seen stickers exactly the same on Singapore/Malaysian VCD releases, I might even have a couple of titles with those same stickers.

Currency wise the value is close to AUD right now but back when that VCD was new I don't know the value.

I believe this is a very short list. I think there is something but I forget what it is. VCD had pretty much zero ad space in 90s anime mags. With LD having such market penetration and VHS being there for anyone who wasn’t that well off, VCD makes less sense in Japan than any other market, probably. They had something better, they had something cheaper, what good is VCD?

I've got to say in the past few weeks I've found a massive amount of VCDs that are NOT on LD or DVD that I can find.
Very interesting but prices are wayyyyy toooo high, asking 75 bucks for 1 of 4 volumes of an anime series, can't do it.

Are these just VCDs of fansubs? In that case download the original fansub files as they are almost certain to be higher quality.

I can't say, the only one I have DT Eightron is in Japanese with Chinese subs burned in but I can't tell from the box if its even real or not, if I had to guess
I would say its a bootleg.

Here are a few links, its pretty amazing how expensive these are.

Is Goshogun really not on any other format?

Don't know, I just did a quick search to show some of the crazy prices that are being asked for VCDs.

I agree, the prices are crazy. 90s kids probably think VCD is something to collect so someone will probably pay it.

Only for curiosity on the build quality of the anime VCD sets, i have some jap gravure models VCD releases and they are vastly superior to chinese presentations.Good point about chinese releases like "Dodge Danpei" or "Remi" tv series for example is they are made from the same third generation Umatic tape used on the tv station if you like that look.

"JHV" japan home vídeo related to Alice (adult ) and "Víctor" vídeo related to anime based on games look like the most prolific labels releasing quality VCDs. Like LDs you cant catch them all .

Yeah I can't believe I didn't see this one coming, could have cashed in, VCDs were dirt cheap in places like Chinatown and
I think I bought a Tetsujin 28 disc for 5 bucks.

Another thing I have to say, in the past 3 or so months I've had 3 VCDs in my possession, all Chinese pressings, they really aren't
as bad as I remember the two I had around 2003.

So its either the non CRT TV I'm using or possibly better DVD players????
Still not great quality but much better than I remember.
