I'm looking at a copy of a foreign language film and the database says "Digital tracks contain the original German language soundtrack. Analog tracks contain the dubbed English language version."

Sounds good so far, but if the dubs are the same as the Bluray copy, I think I'd prefer to watch with subtitles... or at least have the option.

So my question is, my LD player is connected to my (two channel) stereo via traditional RCA cables. The player is a Pioneer CLD-3090, which can read both and has an optical output (which is not connected). Will I be able to play the german (digital) soundtrack through the analog outs, or will I need to connect the optical output to get the digital soundtrack? I've never noticed a menu setting for which track to use, but then I've never really looked either.

yes you can switch between digital and analog sountracks on your player if you're using the RCA audio outputs. So long as you have the remote (i can't recall that too many players have the D/A button on the players itself.)

You don't have one.

That's fine, just get one that has all the important functions. Apart from the DVL models, Pioneer remotes all use more or less the same codes across the board.

Keep a search on eBay for Pioneer, CU-CLD038 and wait for a good price to pop up for this remote that is for the CLD-3090.

It usually doesn’t have a high asking price so you’ll find a deal when someone is offering it.

Done. For some reason it never occurred to me to look on ebay for a remote. Everything else, but not remotes.
