That the volume control on your receiver goes from 0 to 100 has absolutely no meaning. It could go from Hot Dogs to Hello Kitty and it would be just as informative and meaningless. Your quoting the volume setting makes you sound like a member of Spinal Tap. Here's a tip; If you want your system to sound louder, put a sticker printed with 200 over the 100 marking on your volume control.

The volume control on my Denon AVR-3808 lists its changes in db, but all it allows you to know is that you lowered or raised the volume by a specific number of db, it doesn't tell you anything about the absolute level heard in the room or the amount of power being output.

if the volume knob on your subwoofer only goes from 0 to 10, you should buy one which goes from 0 to 100 to match your receiver. otherwise you will have unbalanced bass:)
you should also check out VCDs(Video CD). Do everything you can to avoid blu-ray discs because they are cheaper and better than Laserdiscs

well, the subwoofer has 2 knobs.

crossover: min 60, max 200hz
volume: only shows min/max.

most of the stuff is from 1992, and the 0-100 is in db, in increments of 5 (0, 5,10, 15, 20...50, 55, 95, 100)

ok then your subs volume at max must be 50. thats why it matches half way. buy a second sub or buy 1 with volume of 100.

I'm so confused :crazy:
At the shop I have a Pioneer receiver and a Sony for DTS. Neither one of them has numbers on the volume control. How do I know how loud it is? Do I just crank it up until the business on the other side of the wall starts pounding :shh:
Maybe I need to get some decals ?

no you should use none-widescreen mode on your tv. if you zoom in other words use widescreen, two screen modes cancel each other out.

the max volume seems to be 75-80, which is damaging. has no trouble matching 60 on the sherwood.

Before there was beta and VHS I cut my teeth on audio repair. You wouldn't believe how mnay customers went "by the numbers" :wtf:
I sure don't miss it (except for the RtoR repairs).
Sorry about your coffee but when I was a kid I would entertain myself by making the neighbor blow milk out her nose :lol: (we were too young for coffee)

Remember the 70's RCA commercials for their Colortrak TV's -"my pants are hot dog red" - one night that commercial was on and my mom told my dad that she wished our TV's picture looked as good as the RCA commercials picture. I was about 10 and remember asking her "you do know that IS our picture, right?". I don't think the got it. Our next TV was a 50 inch Mitsubishi projector that took me forever to find, and by find I mean it was the only set on the market, besides Curtis Mathis console sets, and the only projection set, that decoded full bandwidth color - and on the correct I and Q axis to boot. Mitsubishi only offered those sets for about a year in the early 90's before going back to 40 line 'equi-band' R-Y/B-Y axis decoding that everyone else used too because it was cheaper and saved two delay lines for the Luma and I-axis signal to line them up with the low bandwidth, slower Q-axis signal.
