Pretty sure the CLV ac3 disc is based off of the CAV 25th anniversary set, and this transfer was used for the initial R1 DVD. This used a 70mm print source that had to be meticulously re-color timed to match the intended look, which the first MGM CLV widescreen disc did not do at all and was criticized for. The Criterion was from the 35mm IP and had to go through many versions to pass Kurbick's approval, so this remains the best iteration of the original color. (The audio is the six track run through a ProLogic encoder)
Comparing the MGM 1st CLV and the Criterion CAV set shows the differences. The MGM is far too bright and a bit washed out in places.

Does anybody know if the DTS-HD 2.0 track on the BD (and the DD 2.0 track on the DVD version) of Superman theatrical version is the original mix or not? I'd assumed if not remixed it would likely be like the LD's track.

The way to identify the original stereo mix for Superman is it starts totally in mono, even the music, and does not switch to stereo until the S symbol comes flying from behind and the soundstage opens up into full stereo. Both the 70mm and the Dolby Stereo mix were done this way and its never been used on any release except for the LaserDiscs. The stereo mix from the beginning on the directors cut does not invoke any excitement like the original mono to stereo mix does.

True 70mm 6-track mixes are actually not possible on a LaserDisc (ie. left, left-center, center, right-center, right, surround). The left-center and right-center channels are removed or mixed with the left and right channels or center channel (if the mix has LFO channels).
