Post subject:  DTS ES on Laserdisc ?

Hi there,

I was wondering if there were ever released demo or movie laserdiscs containing a DTS ES or DTS ES Discrete Soundtrack.

Or was this impossible through technical limitations?

It was possible but no one ever did it.

If only this happened. . . . . . . . . . . . .That would have been GREAT!

I have the retailer's Laserdisc DTS 5.1 demo disc and that is a great collectors item.....and rare as far as I know.

Regards to all

That's the reason why I still own the initial DVD release of Gladiator over the "Director's Cut." The initial release has the DTS-ES soundtrack, but the "Director's Cut" has only Dolby Digital EX.

My brother and I saw that 4 times in the theater, going to different movie houses that had different sound mixes. DTS blew Dolby Digital away, but SDDS was the best! Saw it with that sound twice!

My copy of "The Haunting" has a very nice Dolby Digital Surround EX 6.1. Probably the closest thing to DTS-ES on a Laserdisc.

At that time I settled for the Japanese Superbit DTS-ES edition, the quality was quite impressive.
Watched it against recently with upscaling DVD player and it has nothing to be ashamed of in terms of quality even 10 years later.

Boys if we are to leave laserdisc territory, might as well go for the best. 2nd pressing remastered bluray murders all previous dvd versions in picture and sound. Its not 6.1 but its lossless.

is the dts "flying disc" logo the short version (as used in cinemas) or the now used long version?

Good morning elieb,

This Laserdisc was a demo for retailers only: It had key Jurassic Park sound a Pic moments to showcase the DTS sound and other clips, of which I cannot remember at this moment.. . . . .

I had bad early start at 05:00 am this morning and am still not fully awake yet....

The above LD was purchased from The administrator and was I believe the last.

I haven't seen this come up on the bay auction site.

Regards to you

The "short" version was only only on the first couple of films (Jurassic Park, Heart & Souls), and was part of the release print. The actual name of the trailer is "The Digital Experience", and was dropped from later prints as theaters without DTS playback ability complained. I know I was told to cut the trailer off of Jurassic Park when I had to move it to screens that didn't have DTS playback.

I do not believe I've ever seen the "short" version on video.
