as true lies goes, the best presentation is (or was) available on D-theater with a great DTS full bitrate track, indeed no blu-ray yet. I have a German DTS version of True Lies that looks and sounds great. |

Blade Blu-ray Disc is available in Canada from Alliance. It is NOT in original aspect ratio. Original aspect ratio is 2.39:1. BD release is cropped to 1.78:1. for those purists it is not a good release to purchase. Alliance is known to include so little to no extras. It is safe to assume it has English DTS-HD MA track with no subs on BD25. |

Apollo 13 is also available in HD-DVD which has Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 for audio. Dobly Digital Plus has a maximum allowed bitrate of 3.0 mbps for HD-DVD. Most of the warner titles are limited to 640kbps, some Universal titles had 1.5mbps. There is an Imax edition on dvd for Apollo 13 with half/bitrate DTS. |

I agree that best way to watch True Lies is on D-theater tape. D-theater allows 28 mbps fixed bitrate for 1080i video(although in mpeg-2) and 1.5mbps fixed for audio in DTS 5.1. |

One thing i've been wondering....can it be the case that 2.0 stereo can have a higher sound quality rate than 5.1....the sound getting somehow "diffused" for 5.1?? |

On LD the 2-channel digital sound is at 1441 kbps. The Dolby Digital 5.1 track on an LD is at 384 kbps. I believe there was one poster here on LDDb who swears by the 2-channel Dolby Surround tracks on LD digital tracks over the 5.1 Dolby Digital track because of the higher bitrate (even says he hears the difference.) There is some truth to it. I remember some reviews in Widescreen Review Magazine when they did DVD/LD comparison reviews (before they went totally biased for the DVD format--may have been before or after they joined the "DVD Forum") and claimed that the LD had better sound, but only when you listened to the matrixed Dolby Surround on the digital tracks. Blu-ray is a different story as it should have higher bitrates overall. |

The Apollo 13 DTS dvd with upc # 025192046124 that was released in 1999, is supposed to be full bit rate DTS. |

It's a 1.5mbps title - the LaserDisc of Apollo 13 DTS is 1.2mbps - and there is a sample rate difference too, 44.1kHz on the LaserDisc VS 48kHz on the DVD. The I!AX DVD version has the half rate 768kbps DTS at 48 kHz sampling rate. I think the LaserDisc and DVD are 18-bit resolution - I don't know what the bit depth of the IMAX DVD version is. |

That would be an interesting comparison of the DTS LD and the full bit rate DTS DVD |

it's 1509KBPS @ 48 kHZ @ 18 bit where the LD is 1228 KBPS @ 44KHZ @ 20bit The diff between them is them mix the DTS LD is louder then the DVD version +5,71DB. but sound wise the same |

One was the Batman Forever LD, which actually has a Widescreen Review article praising the Surround matrix over the discrete ac3. |

some digital 2 channel LD sound 10 times better then it's AC-3 variant. also the bone collector on blu ray is 5.1 and the laserdisc version is 6.1 EX exclusive |
