a question on Dolby Stereo 6-Track Stereo sound:
since i haven't seen laserbite34 around lately, kinda sad :(

anyway, how can i get/simulate the half left and half right sounds?
choosing the pioneer elite vsx49txi.

do i....

a) connect my old receiver to the tape/line in, and feed the center channel via a mixer to the tape/line in?

any other ideas?

well, my experimental todd-ao 5 front channel/1 rear setup is completed. and here's a breakdown of 70mm

todd-ao: left-left-centre-centre-centre-right-right and mono surrounds at rear and sides, no nr

dolby 70mm "discrete": left/centre-left/centre/centre-right/right and mono surrounds at both side and rear, now with dolby a nr

dolby 70mm "baby boom": left/centre-left/centre/centre-right/right and mono surrounds at both side and rear, now with dolby a nr (centre-left and centre-right become mono bass channels)

dolby 70mm "split surround" left-centre-right-LFE-stereo surrounds on rear and sides, dolby a nr

note: using one pair of surround speakers

well, i did it--simulated todd-ao "5 front, 1 rear sound mix"

Image
left channel and mid-left/centre-left/half-left

Image
centre speaker

Image
right channel and mid-right/centre-right/half-right

what i did:

connected the tape/line in input from the 5030r to the tape/aux input of the 2nd receiver, for the extra left and right channels
connected the center channel pre out from the 5030r to the "mic" input of the 2nd receiver, for the center channel to be mixed in the extra left and right.
now i adjust the volume to match the main receiver, and use the mix dial to increase/decrease the amount of center channel going in the extra left and right.

Truly you are the second coming of laserbite34. Totally hardcore for sound.

why do you have the headphone "out" of the silver amp?????

you need to use the in's and out's on the back never the front, no matter what.
even i know that.

and you need to do some spring cleaning James.

 isn't that like hooking a hose from your car exhaust to the car air intake

James, you must fine someone or start searching for magazines to do this, don't take it into your
own hands.

also what is that silver amp, brand and model number.

"Mic Out" was common on old receivers. Its just a 1/4" TRS socket for line out. Sometimes labeled "Dubbing Out". Same as using the RCAs on the back. My old Marantz has this.

? possibly mic in, but i've never seen that. mic out would do nothing.
mic's are not speakers so there would be no signal coming from that.
so hooking up a speaker to that OR hooking the speaker mic out to the speaker in would do nothing.

Its incorrect terminology, either on the part of elieb or the manufacturer, but the point is its a line level out.

But on his receiver why does it look like there's a level control right above the jack? Like a mic level control. We used to use the mic in to do sing along with out favorite LPs :D

Ah, I see, that is what he's basically doing then. For lack of an actual mixer he's intentionally combining L, R, and C and can adjust the mix with the mic gain in order to get 6 channel mix (which I know nothing about, personally).

Technically incorrect but as long as the gain is kept low its not going to hurt anything.

I had a Mr. Microphone, personally, but did my share of hooking up things "wrong" and nobody ever got killed. That's how you figure stuff out! :)

you are correct, signofzeta.

i tried my mixer, got too hot.
by using my 2nd reciever, i gained a stand for the centre speaker.

Not true...

A dynamic mic is a speaker! (plug it into a headphone output and you will hear sound!
A speaker connected to a mic input will also work! But you have to shout real hard :P (except for 600 Ohm speakers!)

I've often wondered about doing something like this, but wouldn't you have to have the original six track mix intact for it to work at all? Almost all were run through ProLogic encoders or other processing in addition to being edited and changed (SW Trilogy Definitive Collection).
