I Use Dolby Surround/Pro Logic, basically...it is ALMOST the same as commercial Dolby Stereo.
but the 70mm variants (baby boom, discrete and split surround) are different, some of you saw star wars in 70mm dolby.
i didn't--i was born on aug 12 1989.

but this can be simulated using a home theatre. (example: Denon avr 4810CI, klipsch speakers)
my 2nd choice is DTS sound.

i guess it depends on you, and your choice of surround.

windsor, ontario got dolby sound too late, and they could have done better.
like make the odeon theatre the 1st with dolby sound.

I use it for surround encoded discs, otherwise it spreads everything out needlessly.
What my receiver does is odd though. It's a 5.1 receiver Dolby and DTS capable, yet when I select Prologic it isn't PLII and gives the LCRS speaker configuration icon. But sound comes out of both rear surrounds because this receiver does not have/support a rear surround. I think what it is doing is playing the surround on both rear speakers akin to PLII and being in the center gives the impression of a single mono speaker directly behind.

it's easy...
i had a old sony 6.1 receiver, which is now junk...for all pro logic units, the surround requires 2 speakers.
my sherwood 5030-r uses 2 speaker outputs to get the surround.

what you are hearing is normal, the surround speakers can be on the sides or the rear.
