I just got a Japanese LD of [PILA-1338] and it does have English Audio on it.. but I'm not sure want setting to set my player at? (DVL-909)
I've try setting it to "Digital Stereo" & "Analog Stereo" but only Japanese, so I'm not sure what's going on :? ... maybe the info is wrong but I'll like to see if I'm just not setting it right.

I see that some LDs have Analog Left & Analog Right, Left being the Commentary & Right being the Movie Soundtrack. How does this work.
So how does Analog soundtracks work? I'm sure I know how DTS & AC-3 work... but this part, I'm not sure.

You have to use the RCA analog/digital outputs and not just the digital PCM coax or Toslink to hear the analog tracks because the analog sound is not output on the straight digital outs. LaserDisc players require several different hookups to your receiver to hear all the soundtracks.

Thanks for the info, its vary useful.

Sadly I'm only using RCA right now as I don't have any working receivers for my LD Player.
It does have 2 sets of RCA so what do I need to do? I'm most likely just not doing it right.. or maybe the info in wrong and does not have English audio.
(LDDb info says the Analog Tracks are Bilingual)

This is my Setup I'm using right now:
S-Video Out #1
Audio Out R&L #1

I'm not 100% sure PILA-1338 has english audio.
PILA-1338A has english audio tho...
Someone might have updated the PILA-1338 entry with the data of PILA-1338A by mistake.
Make sure to double check.

The DB is wrong. There is no English on this release, only on the US version.

With all of Pioneer LDCA anime releases, when there is dual language, the digital track is English and the Japanese is analog. If you are using the RCAs then you should hear English by default. Set the player to analog/stereo to hear Japanese.

I'm not sure what the deal is, but a few of Pioneer's Japanese territory OVAs are listed as dual language when they aren't. I can only assume that because of the similar covers people got the US and JP versions mixes up. Anyone who knows what they are looking at though should be able to tell, even if there is no obi or removable rear sheet. The US ones have the usual crappy jackets that are about 1/3 as thick as the JP ones. The US ones have English on the label, as well as translated inserts, American reply cards, etc. Japanese ones are ALL Japanese.

Exceptions: some versions of the first Tench movie have English.

Well this was the 1st Japan LD that I got that seem to have English, but only says Japanese Stereo on it.
I was trying to make sure that I wasn't setting it all wrong as I used English on other Japanese LDs and all worked great. (Going be the DB)

I own that one as well, I was just going to buy the USA version but I got the Japan var. as it looks nicer and was less.
I just love the artwork.

Thanks for all the help.

Is Tenchi Muyo in Love: The Movie (1996) [PILA-1393] the one you have? That thing is awesome. Its certainly not the best anime roadshow release I have, but it's probably the nicest box of a single film. The gold disc is so cool.

And yeah, the US cover art is dunkus. I don't WTF happened there. That crappy granite boarder making the actual art tiny, the tacky Photoshop 3.0 "reflection" thing on the font. Terrible. It makes Jerk, The (1979) [16-015] look like Kurenai no Buta (Porco Rosso) (1992) [TKLO-50090].

Yes it is, I love that gold disc as well and the artwork of the Box's cover as well as the covers for the disc themselves.
Sadly the DB does not have a cover for it at this time. (& I seen some anime that have the wrong covers as well. Ex: JAP cover on the HK var.)

For Pioneer releases, at least, if it doesn't have the "Dual Audio" logo on the jacket or disc-label somewhere, it does not have multiple language tracks. Not all the publishers were so conscientious ; you'd never know from the jackets, for example, that any Manga Entertainment US LDs even had Japanese language tracks. I do have a couple of Japanese releases which are dual-audio but not bilingual (a disc of "Those Who Hunt Elves" comes to mind, which has a couple of minutes of some weird audio omake).

Sorry for bumping this, but I'm having the same issue as the OP. I'm working with the Ghibli ga Ippai discs that have Japanese audio through analog right and English audio through analog left. I can only get the Japanese audio to play. My player has 2 RCA audio L/R jacks, and the Japanese audio plays through both L/R #1 and #2. It also plays when switching between analog and digital tracks. Is there something wrong with the setup, or something else I need to do?

Looking at Ghibli Ga Ippai Collection (1996) [TKLO-50180] it looks like not all discs have an English track, can you confirm if you play a movie where English mono is stated you have the same problem?

I specifically tried it with Kiki's Delivery Service (which has always been reported as having the English track) and only got the Japanese track to work.

Just tried out my copy and, just like the stats on the jacket says, the English dub is found on the right analog track. Not sure what you may doing wrong, unless you're using an optical output.

I'm using the red and white RCA jacks connected from the player, through a 4-way AV splitter, to the TV. I switched the jacks between the left and right channels (#1 and #2 on the player) and got Japanese from both. Maybe it'll work if I connected the player directly and not through the splitter?

You're using the right output, but are you sure that you switch to the right analog channel? If you do so and still get no English track, there must be something wrong with your disc.

I'm not sure if this helps, but on my player there's an "Audio" button that I push to switch between analog and digital channels. It flashes "analog" and "digital" when it switches, but doesn't indicate which analog channel it switches to. I tried swapping the audio jacks between both analog channels and switching between analog and digital, but the language is still Japanese. I'm not sure at this point if there's something wrong with the disc or with the player - I'll check the other discs with English audio and see if they work.

Is this your remote?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-CU-CLD0 ... 4ac4a69797
If so, what happens if you press the D/A/CX right to the audio button?
