I just got a copy of Shanghai Grand (San Seung Hoi taan) (1996) [ML 679] which has a fairly prominent dolby digital logo on the cover. However, the disc does not have an AC-3 track. I wasn't too surprised since I've had many Chinese DVDs that plaster the cover with DTS, Dolby Digital, EX, THX, DVD9, etc. with all or most of which being completely false. I've just never encountered it in the LD sphere. Anyone else have discs advertising something they don't have?

The only oddity I remember is Casino dts that features CC (closed caption) well... it didn't show any and my CC decoder was working fine!
Casino (1995) [43117]

To my :o it didn't work while all my other movies bearing the CC logo did!
I meanwhile own another casino dts copy and CC works altough I sold my CC decoder years ago. It is a nice feature but I don't care if my ld are subtitles since my English is decent enough.

I bought a copy of The Fugitive (taiwan release) some years ago and had my doubts it was AC-3 digital surround. I suspected it being a Bootleg.
Thankfully it does have a solid AC-3 soundtrack. The cover doesn't indicate this in any way but there is a round sticker present on the front cover!
The disc printing itself does mention AC-3 surround sound!
Makes me think about the 5th element!! that's one that came with a dolby digital sticker on the back due to legal issues ...
Fugitive, The (1993) [PV174-2WB] is one of my "stranger" discs.
I just noticed the cat.nr on mine
It is PV174WB NOT PV174-2WB!!

I've been looking for that edition of "The Fugitive" for years. There are a handful of titles which didn't match their jackets. "Beavis & Butthead do America" widescreen is AC3, but it is not documented anywhere on the jacket. I have a copy of "The Portrait of a Lady" from China that has the Dolby Digital logo on the jacket and disc labels, but the disc isn't AC3. There were several titles that were listed as AC3 in the catalogs, but when they came out, they were not AC3.

I have had a few LDs (all US releases) that did not mention an AC-3 track on the jacket but when the disc was popped into the player the light on the de-coder would come on. If they had gone to the bother of putting the AC-3 feature on the disc (& perhaps paying any license fees that may have been due) it is odd that some did not mention it on the cover. Mind you I would rather have the rather pleasant surprise of finding an AC-3 track on an LD that does not mention it on the cover rather than have it mentioned on an LDs cover & then find it is NOT on the disc!!!

A number of discs had a Dolby digital sticker on the shrink wrap. On some of them they may have just omitted mention of it on the cover?

The US "Armitage III" movie disc says both AC-3 and CX. (It's actually AC-3.) Confused the stuffing out of me.
