Here in PAL-land, 5" CD-Video singles only had digital sound, of course.

Do the NTSC equivalents have both analogue and digital soundtracks on the video portion, like normal LaserDiscs?

It would seem pointless for them to have an analogue track, as unlike the larger digital sound discs launched at the same time, they could never be played in analogue-only players - but did they anyway?

Afaik only digital audio.
The CDV only players i've got work like cd players basically, with only cd 44.1 hz digital audio as the audio.
The Philips CDV 185 i've got also has a digital out, so will dts discs as well. But that is a PAL ony player.
Now that would have been marvelous; a surround sound 5"cdv!
Too bad it never happened as dts etc came after 5" cdv was long dead.

So presumably the analogue soundtrack is still there, in some form, it's just that players say "I'm playing a 5" CD-V, so I won't let the user listen in analogue"?

Has anyone ever tried overriding this and seeing if there's any sound at all on the analogue track?

No with PAL as well as NTSC the CDV 5" and VSD videopart is laserdisc CLV only with digital stereo 44.1 kHz only.
