Never got around to listening to the M&E track on Carrie until recently, but my copy of Carrie #141A (1976) [CC1322L] just has silence on the left analog track on Side B.

Are they all like this? Is it just the CLV version? Couldn't find any mention of this elsewhere.

It says “score and effects” sound on the left analog track. Thus, there probably are large portions of silence and then you’ll here the occasional Foley sound effects and musical score.

It's not just some large portions, it's the entire side. Here's what the waveform looks like:

Checked with both of my players and got the same results.

You've probably left it a bit late to take it back to the store for a refund :)

Right, I got it used years ago but I probably wouldn't return even if I could.

Seems like the only LD recall Criterion did was The Prince of Tides, so is it just my copy? But I don't see how it could be anything other than a mastering issue, I don't think it's possible for just the left track of a LD's analog audio to go bad...

I remember reading once that the digital tracks go bad first, only remember this due to the fact that I have a disc where that
happened.
Haven't watched it in a few years, may have to watch again to see if it got worse.

If your players are hooked up right then it’s not just your copy. It’s totally impossible for just one analog track to rot away to total silence with nothing else damaged. It was mastered and pressed that way, with silence. How many defective copies were made or destroyed or got lost is of course impossible to say.

Yeah, I assumed that was the case. Seems strange that I can't find any other reports of this issue though, I wonder if I just happened to get an early pressing that was recalled before the actual release date or something, but found its way out in the wild. Will have to check the mint marks when I get the chance.

Could very well have been a disc that was recalled for defects and was never sent back to Criterion. Have checked the mint markings to see if they match what we have documented?

Here's the mint marks on my disc:
Side A: 58-288A1-06 B3060066
Side B: 58-288B1-06 B3050179

I'm guessing the ones on the LDDB page are from an earlier manufactured disc:
58-288A1-04 E3050923
58-288B1-01 E3050207
