Mine would be: Boogie Nights Sweet movie and great commentary track. The kicker though is the excerpts from exhausted; John C. Holmes, the real story, which is not available on the dvd edition. Its really cool. On top of that, while it's playing, you can listen to a commentary track by Paul Thomas Anderson on one channel, and on the other you can listen to an audio essay about the life of John Holmes. Cover-wise, I love the Robinson Crusoe on Mars jacket with the groovy sci-fi feel on the orange back drop. I also the the game cover with the jigsaw pieces. |

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is nice. Love that bonus scene which have Japanese dub with English subtitles according to the dub.  My other favorite have to be Bram Stoker's Dracula. The cover is just awesome. Love the pictures.  I recently bought Pulp Fiction and Halloween, which are on the way in the mail now. Can't wait to check those out! Never seen Halloween before, so hope it's going to be a pleasant experience.

I would have to go with the CAV Robocop release as my all time favourite. It is my favourite movie, and I love the look of the sleeve and the disc label. I also really like the CAV Akira release, just looks really cool. |

My current favorite is my El Cid Criterion. It was around $60-$80 for years until the DVD came out and I snatched one up for $10 at long last. |

I can't figure out how to watch the TV version since I don't have a remote for my CLD-79 otherwise I love watching the movie regardless. I first saw it on TV and it was my first R and widescreen on VHS back in the day

OK,You Asked.... "Red Beard", The last one of 16 Akira Kurosawa's Epic films starring Toshiro Mifune. This story drives home the theme of compassion and medical ethics involving the dead and dying. A fantastic performance by Mifune who was so naturally cast in the samurai genre. Chalk this one up as a "Must see" title for anyone that enjoys Black and White Criterion Classics !!! Might as well put all of Kurosawa's films on the "Must See" list for that matter........... Thanks.... |

Great overall performance, and of course totally uncut - just like it was meant to be! But I think the "Seven" Boxset also deserves our attention. Picture looks kinda special because of the silver coated film material used for the mastering process and works very well on dark scenes where a lot of details usually cease to exist. And the AC3 soundtrack is outstanding too. Also the bonus material - like the (very) creepy picture animation of the facial pictures taken from that guy bound on the bed for a year - is really worth watching and gives lots of extra information concerning the whole project!

"Spartacus"! It has the original Alex North compositions not used in the final movie on an alternate track, plus all the screen tests, raw interview footage, extended scenes and hours of other extras. PLUS it looks better than the DVD or the Blu-ray!!  J |

Does it really look better than the Dvd? Spartacus was released by Criterion on Dvd too, I have that edition though I haven't watched it yet (I have only seen the HD-Dvd from Universal that was quite DNR'd). And about Red Beard, I bought that one too this summer and I'm planning to watch it soon. The artwork is pretty nice. I got my hands on Yojimbo for 70 Sek ($10) last week and I can't wait to watch it as I haven't seen that film. I would also prefer their edition of Pulp Fiction before the Dvd's and Blu-Rays. The main problem with the later editions is the audio, watch the scene right before the breakfast-scene where Jules and Vincent discuss footmassage. All of the Dvd's and Blu-Rays sounds terrible, and you can't even notice Strawberry Letter 23 that plays in the background. But the Laserdisc is crisp and clear all around. |

Gosh, it would be an easier question if you asked which ones do you hate! Magnificent Ambersons is amazing Swing Time - great commentary King Kong - same Invasion of the Body Snatchers - best looking transfer of this movie to this day unfortunately High Noon - same North By Northwest - of course the storyboards Blade Runner - production art Hard Days Night & Help ect The list goes on and on. My favorite is usually the last one I watched. |

 Hmmm! Favorites? Tough one ... I really like Criterion(s). Just a few that come to mind. Alfred Hitchcock's Black Mail ... to this day, it's the best publicly available copy of Hitch's first talking film. Includes the following special feature: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGQC109RnAA that is not available anywhere else as far as I know. Also Hitch's Rebecca ... nice commentary track. King Kong ... I believe that this was the first commentary track ever recorded for LD(s). |

For the extras alone: Citizen Kane The Magnificent Ambersons Rebecca Invasion of the Body Snatchers King Kong Bad Day at Black Rock Monty Python and the Holy Grail This is Spinal Tap (commentary track is much better than the one on DVD) Scaramouche Olympia Singin' in the Rain Annie Hall -- because it has the original subtitles (you know, the scene where Woody Allen is talking to Diane Keaton on the balcony, but the subtitles say "I wonder what she looks like naked?"). The DVD version redid the subtitles. |

Of the Criterion laserdiscs that I own and have watched (I picked up a bunch over the summer from a guy who sold a bunch of discs at one time on ebay starting at $5 and I haven't gotten around to watching many of them yet) my favorite is Blade Runner. It's been surpassed now by the blu ray, but it meant so much to me in 2004 when I bought it to be able to watch that version of the movie in its original aspect ratio with digital sound. |
