Taken from my own collection since I'm lazy Alien Amadeus Amelie Battle Royale Cinema Paradiso Dark City Disney/Pixar Fahrenheit 451 1984 Gone with the Wind Immortal Beloved Labyrinth Dark Crystal Lost Boys Maborosi Paprika Perfect Blue Wonderful Days Jurassic Park A Little Princess The Secret Garden To Live Story of Qiu Ju, The (still need to watch this) Vampire Hunter D I have not looked through my tapes I'll look and add them another time. I always wondered why their criteria is for what makes a Criterion release.

Would like to see now, or would like to have seen during their LD days?
Off the top of my head, I'd particularly love to have Criterion editions of:
12 Monkeys Alien A Clockwork Orange Dark Star Dune Kill Bill (especially the Whole Bloody Affair cut) Män som hatar kvinnor The Red Violin Southland Tales Star Wars Trilogy (Pre-Special Edition) THX 1138
And, of course, I'd love it if they managed to get back to the rights to the body of Godard's work (especially Une femme est une femme and Alphaville), 2001: A Space Odyssey, Ran, Blade Runner, and Lawrence of Arabia.

I would agree with most everything here, a lot of stuff would have made for an amazing Criterion release.
Jurassic Park would probably be in my tops.

Agree about Southland Tales, awesome soundtrack One of the most underrated and misunderstood films of the 2000s, I consider it to be every bit as good, if not better, than Donnie Darko. ~ John

johngrey wrote: Män som hatar kvinnor Why do you think it's suitable for a Criterion release? I saw it on the International Women's Day last week (ironically, as the original title is Men Who Hate Women in Swedish) and didn't find any special element in it at all. Nothing original or new, the Swedish film industry is filled with bad thrillers and such stuff. But then that's my opinion so I'm just asking what you think.

How did I put this when it usually slips my mind in lists? I should have also said THX-1138 but somehow that was the one that slip my mind. I hate growing old.

Criterion during the laserdisc era I think focused on Bergman, Kurosawa, and Truffaut a little too much at the expense of some other great cinema. They only did two Tarkovsky films and hardly any Russian cinema at all. No Luchino Visconti films, only one Jean Jacques-Beineix, only one Nicholas Roeg film, etc.
And there were quite a few mediocrities they put out, if not absolute garbage. As far as Armageddon and The Rock, it really wasn't because they thought they were innovative milestones in action cinema, it's because one of Criterion's honchos is good friends with Michael Bay. Chasing Amy, The English Patient, Evita, Bodies Rest and Motion, and others were putrid films.
